A Note from David

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!
“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” — Romans 11:33, 36

We are excited to report that we both officially passed our final French exams! Thank you for your prayers on our behalf. We had six separate exams to test our abilities in reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing, pronunciation while reading out loud, and our speaking abilities (through both dialogue and monologue). Additionally, we each had a 2.5 hour cumulative grammar exam. We have much more progress to make in our French abilities, but we are so grateful for the valuable opportunity this has been for us.

In light of the restrictions and complications arising from Corona virus, we have been in much prayer that the Lord would grant you all much wisdom for many decisions that must be made in your lives and churches (James 1:5). These difficult times reveal our great dependence on the Lord and we look to Him and to His all-sufficient Word for direction. We long to see you and we thank the Lord for you daily. If the Lord wills, perhaps we'll have the opportunity to see some of you in person during our Stateside visit as we make final preparations for Madagascar.
Gloire à Dieu,

French Progress

On Friday, July 17, we both received our diplomas for successfully passing our French courses this year. We praise the Lord for His faithfulness to our family. Anne was Ashley's professor for the last 7 months and David's professor for his first 4 months—she's been a blessing to us both.
This is Letizia. We were both privileged to have her as one of our professors.
This is Catherine. David was blessed to have her as one of his professors.

Family News

A recent highlight was having fellow missionaries, John and Meg Glass, come to visit us in Albertville for the day. They have been a true encouragement and help to us during our time here. Our family loves to visit their home as well!
We are thankful to have met Christine who is originally from Antananarivo, Madagascar. She works at our language school and we had the privilege of meeting her family and spending time together at her home. It was a wonderful opportunity to talk about Madagascar while communicating in French as she does not know English. Since first meeting her a year ago; her joyfulness and kindness have always blessed us.

Church News

July 19 was the first Sunday that we were able to return to our church in Albertville since the start of Coronavirus. We were so blessed to be able to worship the Lord together in person!
Due to seating limitations, people must call ahead to reserve seats for their family. We pray that the Lord will strengthen His church despite the new challenges it now faces. May the Lord be glorified!

A Note from Ashley

“For I proclaim the name of the Lord; Ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock! His work is perfect, for all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.” — Deuteronomy 32:3-4

I have been reading through the Old Testament and just finished Joshua. Day after day, I am reassured that our God is faithful, He is great, just, righteous, and upright. All His ways are perfect. I am praising God for His help this past year as we labored and strove through countless hours of language learning. Honestly, in many ways, this has been the hardest thing I have ever done. It has been a humbling year and a wonderful year at the same time. I am thankful for the opportunity to trust God and be uncomfortable in many new ways during our time here.

As we prepare to move, my heart is sad to leave the friends we have made and this place that is now dear to our hearts. However, it is with joy that we press on to the next steps and ministry ahead! We truly thank God for you in our prayers, we do not take your prayers, encouragement, or financial giving lightly. Thank you for partnering with us for the sake of the gospel.

Anna (age 7), “I am going to miss living in France, I like speaking in French with my friends.” Thank you for praying for each of our daughters. They have each progressed so much in French and have enjoyed the process! They are able to play with French-speaking children and have developed some close friends even. We have seen God answer many prayers concerning our girls.

In His love,

Praise Report:

  • Praise God that we've been able to finish our French studies well.
  • Praise God that we were able to register our girls into a French-speaking school in Madagascar.
  • Praise God that we found a temporary home to rent near our Malagasy language school.

Prayer Requests:

  • Please pray that we'd be able to successfully sell our car in France.
  • Pray for our girls through the upcoming transitions, goodbyes, and changes.
  • Pray for wisdom in decision-making with all of the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on many logistical arrangements.
  • Pray that our family would walk by the Spirit through the many stresses of multiple moves.
  • Pray for growth in Christ-likeness!
All Glory Be to Christ,
David & Ashley, Isabella (age 10), Lydia (age 9), Anna (age 7), and Clara (age 5)
