Christ has been raised!

Happy Resurrection Sunday from the Ellingsons!
"For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." — 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

What a joy it is to proclaim that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is ALIVE. The Resurrection is the glorious vindication of the cross of Christ. We can be saved only because Jesus lived, died, and rose again in the place of sinners. That is why the death and resurrection of Christ are the pinnacle and priority of preaching. We are filled with joy that we can be on the mission field in order to serve such a worthy King.
Our hearts and prayers are with you all. We love and miss you and long to see you as soon as the Lord provides that opportunity. For now, we are laboring in our French studies to be better equipped for the ministry the Lord has prepared for us. Thank you once again for your consistent prayers, notes of encouragement, and financial support. The lockdown in France has made language study more challenging, but we know the Lord has ordained this for His glory and our good. Pray for God to grant us abundant wisdom for all that we need in the coming months.
Gloire à Dieu,

Progressing in our French

Working on French with classmates over ZOOM. Note that their images are intentionally blurred because some are missionaries to classified countries. Also note that the background of my screen is not my office, but a virtual background of the office I wish I had.

Lockdown in France

The French police routinely check people for required paperwork when they are out of their homes. We are only allowed to leave our home for essentials such as groceries, the hospital, or the pharmacy. We are also still allowed to get exercise outside, but only within 1km from home and for up to 1 hour per day.

Family News

The end of February was lots of snow, but then...
... just like that, Spring came!
For Passion Week, our family has really enjoyed studying the week leading up to and including Christ's death and resurrection together for devotions.
Sunday morning streaming a worship service together—the girls also try to take sermon notes.

A Note from Ashley

Much has happened in the world since our last newsletter, and I know we are all experiencing disruption to our lives. Our daily life here in France changed abruptly and unexpectedly a month ago when all the schools closed, and we rapidly found ourselves in a lockdown. Although we would not have planned this, we have hope and peace because we know that God has ordained this and that He has good purposes in everything He does.
Personally, I have been so thankful to have more time as a family and especially this past week to have the time to focus on Christ’s death and resurrection together instead of taking final exams in French as was planned.
David and I are continuing to learn French from home using handouts, videos, assignments, and evaluations that are posted online by our professors at our language school. Although this is not ideal, we are pressing on in pursuit of learning French. Our daughters are also continuing to do as much of their studies as possible from their French teachers. We are endeavoring to find good strategies to accomplish our studies as we are all in our apartment together all day.
We know that God uses difficult, painful, and even terrible circumstances to bring about His perfect results. Nothing teaches us this more than the unjust crucifixion of His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Today and every day we have true and lasting hope because He bore the wrath for our sins and then conquered death once for all.
Thank you for remembering us and staying in touch. We greatly appreciate your prayers and support. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” — 1 Peter 1:3.
In His love,

Praise Report:

  • Praise God for the joyful celebration of Christ's Resurrection.
  • Praise God for the special time we've had as a family during lockdown.
  • Praise God we have been healthy and able to continue our studies from home.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for God to grants us much wisdom in regards to us leaving France this summer, our final preparations for Madagascar, and all of the logistics we need to resolve by God's grace.
  • Continue to pray for God to grant us the ability to learn as much French as we can during our time here, especially with the school campuses being closed.
  • Pray for strength and encouragement for our teammates in Madagascar, Faly and Lily Ravoahangy.
  • Pray for the people of Madagascar where a national lockdown can greatly impact the ability of the poor to even survive.
All Glory Be to Christ,
