We made it...

We arrived in Madagascar!

Dear Friends,

On Wednesday, August 2nd we left Los Angeles at 9:30am, flew through Detroit and Paris, and arrived in Antananarivo Madagascar around 11pm on August 3rd (it's 10 hours later here than California). The 11,354 mile journey took over 27 hours.

We had a few issues along the way. Our plane could not land in Detroit due to weather, so we flew to Grand Rapids to refuel and wait for weather to clear. This meant we missed our connection to Paris. We found our that there was an 8:45pm flight out of Detroit but we would only have minutes to even make that flight. Once we arrived we ran through the Detroit airport for a long ways and made it to our new flight to Paris!  The problem is that this flight would not arrive until after our plane to Madagascar was already boarded!  So once in Paris, we again had to run. We ran to a customs security check and then ran all the way to our gate. When we arrived, no one was there because everyone had already boarded. Two employees looked shocked that we made it and allowed us to board, but without our checked luggage. Praised God that we arrived safely and on time in Antananarivo. The next flight here would have been two days later. At least five people told us that it would be impossible to make all of those connections, but our God does what is impossible to man.

A Note from David:

I am amazed at our God and His goodness to us. Africa is very different than anything I have seen in the USA. So many souls here. May God give us a love for the people here and the strength to proclaim the riches of Christ to this wonderful people.
Faly and Lily met us at the airport in Tana. We left the airport at 2am local time.

A Note from Ashley:

We have already seen God's grace and faithfulness in getting us here. We look forward to seeing how He will continue to work on this trip.

We want to thank you for your prayers and support and ask that you continue to pray for us over these next few weeks. Here are some specific requests that we would be so thankful if you would pray for.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for our four girls who will be staying with their beloved grandparents in Tucson, AZ.
  • Pray for our checked luggage to arrive on Saturday night at the airport. This will impact our schedule here and we will have to drive in the middle of the night to arrive at our next destination, a church in rural Sakalava. If it rains, vehicles cannot drive on the muddy roads, so we will have to hike here. Our rain coats and changes of clothes are in our checked luggage. Pray for God to keep working powerfully and supplying our needs so well.
