Dear Greylock Together,
Starting this week, evacuees from Afghanistan will begin arriving here in the Berkshires. They've traveled six thousand miles to be here, spending months on one military base or another, and they're going to be starting new lives. They'll be our neighbors, and they're going to need our help.
This past Sunday, we met with Bridget Spann and talked through the logistics of forming a HOST team to support local evacuees in partnership with Jewish Family Services of Western MA. We already have some volunteers, but we need a few more people to step up to help. We're specifically looking for people to help gather supplies -- clothes, appliances, furniture -- and other folks to help coordinate around their needs: housing, community connections, healthcare, employment, and education. No real expertise is needed, just enthusiasm and an eagerness to help others.
We most need people who are able to commit to helping for the first six months, but we could use your help no matter what kind of commitment you're able to make.
Reply to this email with your name if you think you'd be able to help. For more details, please see this flier.
Resist and persist!
