Dear Greylock Together,

LOCAL CALL TO ACTION: BLOOD SAVES LIVES
Update on Richard, a 3-year-old Williamstown Side-by-Side student:

Thank you to everyone for your support of Richard's family during this challenging time.  Following chemotherapy, Richard had a bone marrow transplant a few weeks ago.  The doctors continue to evaluate the success of the bone marrow transplant while Richard's family is dreaming of Richard returning home this fall. Richard's brothers were able to attend camp this summer both at the WYC and Camp Russell, which was a gift to this family.

Blood drive @ First Congregational Church Williamstown
Thursday, August 26 from 9 am - 2:30 pm

Please consider donating blood in honor Richard; he has been at Boston Children's Hospital for the past four months, and recently received a bone marrow transplant. Richard has needed 10 blood transfusions, so donating blood is a wonderful way to show your support.  All donations made via Berkshire Health Systems help local patients, and for those dealing with cancer, other illnesses, and emergencies, the need is great.  Donors are requested to be healthy and without any symptoms of cough, cold, or fever. To schedule an appointment, please contact Chris Amuso at (413) 447-2597 x 2 or camuso@bhs1.org.

Wondering how to show support for the people of Afghanistan?

Thanks to Drew Herzig and Indivisible Pittsfield for sharing ways to show tangible support.

If you are able to give a donation to either of these groups, they will provide real help and relieve some of the feelings of powerlessness that are taking such a toll on our world and our neighbors. Charity Navigator gives both of these agencies their highest rating.

SPEAK OUT FOR JUSTICE—
JOIN INDIVISIBLES AND CALL, CALL, CALL!

We cannot continue to let Republicans hold our democracy hostage. We must eliminate the filibuster to save our democracy. Call our Senators and let them know you want them to eliminate the filibuster to pass the #ForThePeopleAct and other progressive priorities. We don’t have time to waste. You can use a cell phone or a landline to make the call.

DIALING FOR DEMOCRACY

Join a phone bank with the team at Swing Blue Alliance and their partners at Common Cause to urge Democratic Senators to make the For the People Act a top priority and to lobby their colleagues. Take ACTION and help call voters in key swing states to urge them to contact their senators!

Regular phone bank opportunities on Mondays/Wednesdays/Thursdays for two more weeks. Sign up for a shift and add this to your calendar to make an IMPACT to protect the FREEDOM TO VOTE for all Americans.

5 reasons to invest in rural America...
The path to the Senate runs through rural America.

  • 5 of the 7 likely Senate battleground states have rural populations of 20% or more.
  • Progressives share common ground with rural voters on issues like healthcare, immigration and public safety. Republicans do not own the rural vote.
  • In 2018, the rural vote swung towards Dems 6%. Rural youth swung towards Dems by 25%.
  • Dems have made inroads with rural voters + helped swing elections: the increase in the rural vote for Biden in 2020 over Clinton in 2016 exceeded his statewide margin of victory in Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
  • Rural does not equal white: 20% of rural voters are people of color. Grassroots organizing can help give us all greater voice.
