Principal's Ponderings
The John Knox Christian School Graduate Profile highlights five key areas of importance upon which we focus for the growth of our students. We want every JKCS graduate to possess these traits:
  1. Academic Excellence
  2. Christian Worldview
  3. Christian Character
  4. Christian Leadership
  5. Learning Skills
It is the area of Christian Leadership that I wish to highlight for this edition of Principal’s Ponderings. We want every JKCS student to:
  • encourage others to reflect the love of Jesus,
  • provide an opportunity for other students' voices to be heard
  • act as a positive role model for other students.
Recently, our grade 6 and grade 8 students had the chance to strengthen their leadership knowledge and skills through two unique growth opportunities.

Last week, grade 8 students attended a Leadership Retreat at Ontario Pioneer Camp for three days. They experienced several different challenges that allowed them to push the envelope of their individual comfort zones, learn about and strengthen their leadership skills, and build teamwork.

This week, grade 6 students concluded the three-day Light Up Your World program. This program is designed to educate students as to their unique worth in God’s eyes, and the importance of how they can build and lift up others with their words and actions.

Enjoy this week’s video as we hear from two students who participated in these exciting leadership opportunities.

In Christ,

Mr. S. Cruickshank

Grade 8 Leadership Retreat

Ontario Pioneer Camp

Carla Buckingham, Grade 8b Teacher

From canoeing and high ropes to archery and axe throwing, the grade 8’s enjoyed every moment of their trip to Ontario Pioneer Camp.

The annual trip to OPC is an opportunity to grow as leaders, to build stronger bonds as a grade 8 community, and experience the great outdoors.

One highlight was a session about Leadership. The group collaborated to solve problems and learned that leadership involves listening, serving, and a lot of grace.
When a student lost an important item in the woods, the whole group worked together to search the expanse with great attitudes and cheerful hearts. We sang around the campfire as some students tried their first ever s’more! We competed in team games in the dark sporting face paint and athletic prowess.

Mr. Shelley and I were so proud of this class. It was a pleasure to watch them grow closer to each other, the Lord, their teachers, and a mosquito or two.

Congrats to the boys indoor soccer team with their 2nd place finish at the PSAA tournament yesterday!

The boys played really well: solid defense, lots of great shots, and excellent team play. Kudos to our captains, Karl and Ryan, for their positive leadership and to our goalkeeper extraordinaire, Zach, for saving the day so many times!

Each year, JKCS hosts a High School Information Night for families with students in grades 7 and 8. The goal of this event is to ensure a successful transition to high school.

The evening features representatives from regional high schools, JKCS graduates who are currently attending high school, guest speakers, and more!

If your child will be heading to high school, you won't want to miss the JKCS High School Information Night. It's a wonderful opportunity for students and families to get first-hand information about the next steps in their academic journey.

Information Evening / Student Visitor Day
Great Lakes Christian High School

Great Lakes Christian is a Christian day and boarding high school providing academic excellence since 1952. Our mission is to foster excellence in education while equipping students to SEEK, SERVE, and BECOME LIKE CHRIST. Being located in Beamsville, a small but vibrant Niagara town, 100 km from downtown Toronto, students are provided many of the necessary amenities but fewer distractions.

Our students have an exceptional acceptance rate to the post-secondary school of their choice - not surprising given our small class sizes and that most teachers have their Masters degree.

Come, see for yourself, how your child could benefit from the Great Lakes Christian experience. Join us for our Information Evening on November 15 at 7:00pm, a Student Visitor Day on November 16 or December 10.

We’d love to introduce you to our community!

Call to make your reservation or better yet, make an appointment today!
