Next Steps for Meeks Bay
Restoration Project

A proposal by the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU), Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), and Lahontan Water Board to restore Meeks Bay is moving through an environmental review process.

Thank you to everyone who submitted comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report. These comments help the lead agencies refine the proposed project to better meet the project’s purpose and need and, ultimately, ensure the environmental analysis is thorough.

From now through the fall, the lead agencies will prepare the final environmental document, which includes a thorough response to comments. They anticipate releasing the Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report this winter, with LTBMU, TRPA, and Lahontan Board review of the final environmental analysis and decision regarding next steps for the restoration project planned for early 2023.

FAQ: How will the final project be selected?

The Forest Service leadership, TRPA Governing Board, and the Lahontan Water Board will select the final project alternative from among those evaluated based on public comments and the environmental effects determined through the environmental review analysis. The deciding officials could choose an alternative that incorporates different components from more than one alternative.
