Spotlight - Hundreds of protectors blockade fracking site in the UK

The resistance against fracking in Lancashire, in the North West of the UK, is still going strong. In June Reclaim the Power joined the people of Lancashire at Preston New Road for a 48h blockade branded ‘Block Around the Clock’. The event culminated at the end of 3 months of United Resistance organised by the locals. The United Resistance mobilised political groups, faith groups, musicians, artists, and many more around themed weeks. Block Around the Clock celebrated the resistance and efforts of the people of Lancashire in a colourful blockade that ended up lasting 54 hours.

With final permission given  by Government on 24th July, Cuadrilla is looking at starting fracking imminently in Lancashire. But the people are not giving up, and will carry on resisting this dirty industry, until we win.

Reclaim the Power’s next national gathering will be held within the Earth First Summer Gathering on 18th and 19th August. An emergency national meet-up is also being held to respond to the news of Government giving the final go-ahead for Cuadrilla to start fracking.

Coming up: Code Rood mass action against gas in Groningen

Less than 1 week to go till the Code Rood climate camp and mass action against gas in Groningen (NL) 24-31 August!
In Europe's largest gas extraction zone hundreds of people will collectively support the existing resistance by strongly disrupting business as usual: gas extraction, the deliberate bureaucray, unwillingness, and lies of the NAM, Shell, Exxon and the governments that make this possible.
You can find all info about the camp and action on

The Gastivists will be there, holding a strategy session and a supply chain mapping workshop - get in touch if you’ll be there and are interested to talk strategy with us!

Share: Open letter objecting to Drax Power Station's gas plans

Drax Plc., UK's largest emitter of CO2 and the world's biggest biomass burner, has applied to the Planning Inspectorate to replace its remaining coal-fired units with much larger ones burning fossil gas. The Drax Power Station's proposal for a 3.6 GW "carbon capture ready" gas-fired power station now has a consultation open on the Planning Inspectorate's website. Biofuelwatch has a draft response to the consultation which you can copy and paste and adapt. We can support by responding to the consultation urging the Planning Inspectorate to reject Drax's proposal on the grounds of climate change. Here and here are some tweets and an fb post you can share.

An open letter is circulating and organisations happy to co-sign can get in touch with

  • Missed the Defund Webinar? Well not to worry, the Defund Fossil Fuels in Europe report is not going anywhere! :). To be read by those who want to understand better financial flows to gas and coal projects in Europe, which banks have provided the money to Europe’s top fossil fuel companies, and what is the strategy behind Defund campaigns.
Some interesting background info tools

1. GLE LNG Investment Database

The LNG Investment Database is based on the LNG Map. It shows the development of the regasification and storage capacity of large-scale LNG terminals from 2005 as well as a forecast for the next years. The data are shown per terminal ranked by country. Some info graphs are included as well but can be adapted to individual needs easily.

2. European Biomethane Map

The GIE - EBA Biomethane Map covers infrastructure for biomethane production and is updated annually with first-hand information provided by European Biogas Association (EBA) member organisations
