Parenting Pointers
Looking to the Parents of the Saints
The word “discipline” comes from the word “disciple,” which means that we should set an example for our children. So when we read about the lives of different saints, and we see the example that their parents modeled for them, we should realize we have a lot to learn from them. Read this article, written by Allison Auth, to learn more about setting holiness as a goal for our children. To make them holy is God’s job. But we can teach them virtue and show them the way to go by the example of our own lives.

Movie Pick
Restless Heart: The Confessions of Augustine
This full-length feature movie on Augustine, uses a historic backdrop to tell the true story of one of the Church's most beloved and well-known Saints. Its message of sin, conversion, and redemption is as timely today as it was in the 5th century of Augustine. It is the story of a gifted man who pursues fame and fortune without a moral compass - and the dramatic changes that occur in his soul when challenging events lead him to see the light of truth. With Augustine, the stories of two other great saints, Monica and Ambrose, are also portrayed. (www.ignatius.com)

Summer Brain Builders
While kids do need a break from school, this doesn’t mean they need a break from learning. For kids with learning disabilities, it’s critical that they engage in activities year-round to help them retain what they’ve worked so hard to achieve. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) offers some ways to prevent “summer learning loss” here.

Prayers and Reflections
Summer Blessing for the Catholic Family
May we make our home a place of relaxation,
joy, love, peace and safety.
May we be generous and considerate,
not thinking only about ourselves,
but helping others to enjoy the blessings of summertime.
Lord God, Creator of all things,
guide our steps and strengthen our hearts
during these months of summer and vacation days.
Grant us refreshment of mind and body.
May we constantly strive to make a meaningful difference
in the lives of our loved ones and in the world around us
as we enjoy the warm days of summertime.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
