Case Highlights
Yemen: Case Regarding HSA Foods Referred to Dispute Resolution
CAO has completed the assessment of a complaint regarding IFC’s support for HSA Foods in Yemen. The complainants and the company have agreed to engage in a voluntary dialogue process to address the concerns. The assessment report is available in Arabic and English. All details of the case are available here.
Jordan: Appraisal Report on Alcazar Energy Case Released. Case Closed.
CAO has closed the Jordan Alcazar Energy-01 case after completing a compliance appraisal. The appraisal report, which is available in Arabic and English, did not identify evidence of significant adverse environmental and social project outcomes or issues of systemic importance warranting an investigation. Philippines: Investigation of IFC Investments in Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation Finalized
CAO has completed a compliance investigation of IFC regarding its investments in Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) in the Philippines. According to CAO’s Policy, IFC has 50 business days to prepare a Management Report in response to this case. Read more for full case details.

Outreach & Events

Outreach in the Caribbean Fosters Dialogue on Accountability
On November 15 and 16, CAO participated in an outreach webinar for the Caribbean region. About 30 civil society participants from 10 Caribbean countries attended the session, representing organizations working on indigenous heritage, environmental conservation, women’s rights, poverty reduction, governance, and justice, among others. CAO and the accountability mechanisms of the Caribbean Development BankInter-American Development BankUN Development Programme, and World Bank co-hosted the webinar. The Barbados-based Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) supported the event and convened participants from its network.

Boosting Civil Society Engagement in Central Africa
On November 18, CAO engaged with civil society representatives from the Central Africa region. Around 20 NGOs from Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, and the Republic of Congo participated in this virtual event. The webinar promoted access to recourse and accountability in relation to development projects. The African Development Bank’s Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) led the organization of the event which was co-hosted with CAO, the European Investment Bank’s Complaints Mechanism, and the World Bank’s Accountability Mechanism. The mechanisms partnered with REPONGAC, a network of national NGOs in Central Africa. Learn more about our outreach program here.
