We build solutions to real world problems by providing an environment where we turn theory into practice and learning means doing.

Welcome!

You have visited our stand at Semaine des Associations - with this email, we'd like to point you to the different ways in which you can start being active! Below we present you briefly our projects. Come to one of the project meetings to see where you would like to contribute!

Working on a project that aims to solve a real world problem is an invaluable experience, and will give you an incredible feeling of accomplishment - trust us, we know! And don't be afraid if you have never worked with robotics, don't know how to turn on a soldering iron, or have no coding skills - we are all about learning by doing! And after all, you won't be working alone, but in a motivated team.

Rover

Read all about it here!

We retrieved the rover after its return from the mission in Antarctica and already had a look at the data which it had collected. In the coming months, we will be working on a report of the rover mission and eventually start thinking about a second generation rover. If you're motivated to contribute, join the rover meetings every other Tuesday night, with the next one being on October 10th!

Nestbox

Read all about it here!

During summer, we advanced with our first nestbox prototype. Our custom owl RFID reader allows us to successfully detect nearby NFC cards and tags. After solving some issues with read range and unexpected current bursts, we will make another iteration of the prototype, which we test first in indoor owl habitats during winter, and in nature by the end of March. If you're motivated to contribute, join the nestbox meetings every other Tuesday night, starting on October 3rd!

Rack

Read all about it here!

It has been seven months since we got the skeleton of the first rack at IKEA, and now the rack is ready for you to use, and the reservation system is online! To use it, you need to create an account which will make you eligible for the 1h introduction workshop. Sign up here! For early sign ups, the workshop is free!
The rack will also be present at the Museomix Hackathon in November, where it enables creative minds to prototype a new museum experience at the Artlab at EFPL.

These are just some of the many ways in which you can get involved. Always have been curious to know the metagenome of your favourite beer? Or are you still looking for a bachelor or master project? Then keep on reading!

You already set your mind on joining us? Welcome! Sign up on poodle.octanis.org!

We're looking forward to welcoming you at one of our next events!

Field gear

Build a device to measure and sample snow and rain with researchers from the Hydrology group at UNIL! Apply for a field trip in October to the Alps to see how they work and gather requirements.
Write an email to board@octanis.org to get in touch.

Master project in RF electronics

Are you an EPFL student looking for a master project in RF? We have one spot left on the nestbox project together with Octanis and the RFIC lab at EFPL. Send an email to board@octanis.org to apply.
