2022 Quest Diagnostics Drug Testing Index Analysis & Data Unveiled

The Quest Diagnostics Drug Testing Index (DTI) is an annual report that examines positivity rates for workplace drug tests and reveals insights into patterns of drug use among the American workforce.

The findings in this year's report—based on tests collected between January and December 2021—point to the increased need for drug testing to create safe, healthful work environments as employers grapple with an ongoing recruitment and retention crisis.

Highlights from the 2022 Report:

  • The overall positivity rate among America's workforce reached its highest level in 20 years and was up more than 30% from the all-time low in 2010-2012.
  • Positivity rates among the federally mandated, safety-sensitive workforce (DOT) showed the first year-over-year increase seen after 5 years of steady declines.
  • Among the general U.S. workforce, positivity rates for marijuana continued an upward climb, increasing 8.3%, the highest positivity rate ever reported in the DTI.
