What's in Bloom this month?

Customer of the Month: Abby Farms

We are excited to announce that Abby Farms has joined the Bloom family of retailers (currently only to the trade).

Abby Farms has been in the wholesale nursery business for about 47 years, providing locally grown trees, shrubs and perennials. “We believe in providing quality plant material at very competitive pricing giving landscapers & contractors the best of both worlds. We understand the nutrient benefits that Bloom provides to the soil,” says nursery sales facilitator Bryan Celentano.

A Fine Vintage with the Bloom Advantage

When we tell customers that Bloom is great for growing everything, Hari Kurup's backyard comes to mind as a case in point. Hari, DC Water's Enterprise  IT Systems Director, uses Bloom to grow Indian specialty vegetables, pumpkins, tomatoes, okra and grapes for his homemade Merlot, in addition to using it to green up the family lawn.

For more photos of Hari's and other Bloom-boosted bounty from this year, follow Bloom on Instagram and Facebook. You can also find a selection of Bloom grown shots on our website gallery

Celebrate National Recycling Day

Mark your calendars for a fantastic event celebrating National Recycling Day, hosted by Bloom retailer Edrich Lumber in Owing Mills, Maryland. Ask for their triple play mix, a Bloom product being used successfully everywhere from cemeteries to golf courses to green up the landscape sustainably -- while helping Bloom recycle thousands of tons of nutrients to restore soils!

Photo of the Month

This before and after photo comes to us via Bloom champion Bobby White, owner of Maple Hill Lawn and Garden. Bobby says “This was a compacted area where a roll-off was placed during renovations. Light cultivation and seeding of tall fescue was done with a topdress of Fresh Bloom... Only 10 days later, it's greening up already with no watering,”

The clock is ticking - If you’re planning to give your lawn a boost this fall, now is the time! Learn more about Bloom for lawns.

Wendy the Water Drop Releases Children's Book

Bloom fans with little ones will want to get their hands on the new children's book, Wendy, Where Does Our Wastewater Go?  The book, co-produced by Blue Drop and DC Water, takes youth on a fun and informative tour of the wastewater treatment process. Wendy and her companions learn where wastewater goes and how it is treated in DC, which of course includes the making of Bloom. Visit the Blue Drop store to purchase the book among other items to get a head's start on your holiday shopping!

On Tap on Netflix!

Bloom doesn't often get in the business of movie recommendations, but a powerful, inspirational documentary like Brave Blue World doesn't come along everyday, either.

The film depicts water heroes across the globe pioneering solutions to the world's water challenges, including recovering resources from wastewater like Bloom does. Watch on Netflix, or consider hosting a community screening!
