Ask the Expert: How can Bloom improve my compacted soil?

In this month's Ask the Expert, horticulture and recycled organics expert Ron Alexander tackles a frequently asked question: How can I use Bloom to improve my compacted soil? Most plants do not thrive in clay soils, especially when they are compacted, as air and water movement – key to root growth – is compromised. Click here to read Ron's column and learn more.

In case you missed them, Ron's most recent columns addressed tree and shrub fertilizationthe utility of sand in Bloom's blends, and Bloom and Phosphorus.

Bloom Featured in the Delmarva Farmer

"In the midst of record-setting fertilizer prices, farmers are eyeing ways to reduce input costs but maintain productivity in their fields. One avenue gaining more attention this year is in using municipal biosolids," writes Sean Clougherty, in a Delmarva Farmer article this month on rising interest in products like Bloom for the farms.

The piece quotes recurring Bloom customer Eric Spates, a Montgomery County, Md., farmer, as touting Bloom's benefits beyond just cost, to include building up the soil with organic matter and adding micro nutrients. “It’s kind of the ultimate in nutrient recycling,” Spates said.

Bloom Featured on Mental Floss

Bloom was one of five innovations in wastewater recycling around the globe featured in a piece this month on Mental Floss, an online platform reaching 19 million users per month with curious and uplifting stories.

As author Lina Zeldovich writes, "Scientists and engineers are telling us that we’ve been wasting our own waste. When recycled properly, this cheap, fully renewable, and readily available substance, regularly produced by all 7 billion of us living on this planet, can grow food, cook dinner, fuel cars, and generate electricity." Bloom does two of the four by helping grow food and generate green energy. Read more at Mental Floss.
