What's in Bloom this month?

JUNE 2021

Customer of the Month: Fingerboard Farm

From hops to now hemp, everything truly has been grown in Bloom! This year, Bloom is working with a handful of hemp farms, including Fingerboard Farm, a 25-acre woman-owned operation in Ijamsville, Maryland.

Dawn Furman Gordon, CEO, was inspired to grow hemp as a result of her journey with Lyme disease, finding CBD products to be a lifesaver in alleviating pain and fatigue. Fingerboard Farm is using Bloom for hemp both in pots and in the field, and “so far, so great. We transplanted our seedlings into a Bloom mix, and they experienced zero transplant shock and incredible growth in the first three days,” says Dawn.

Fingerboard sells a variety of CBD infused products. The business has an Adopt a Hemp program, whereby businesses can sponsor a plant that provides medicine for children with epilepsy as well as environmental benefits like carbon sequestration. The farm, originally founded in 1789, also grows elderberries and offers farm stays.

Fishing Fridays with Anacostia Riverkeepers and Bloom

Looking for a fun, free Friday family night activity? Anacostia Riverkeeper is hosting free fishing nights throughout July and August at Washington, DC's Diamond Teague Pier. On July 23 and August 20, families can learn more about the wastewater treatment process via a hands-on, kid-friendly experiment from the book Wendy, Where Does Our Wastewater Go?  The book, which features Bloom, can be purchased online or at the event. Photo of the Month: Green Carpet Looks

Yet another happy lawn greened up with Bloom, courtesy of Tim Caldwell of Potomac, Maryland.

"This spring the Bloom you provided really did its job. Before we spread the Bloom, we had the yard aerated. I then spread a good quality seed suited for sun and shade. We used the bulk of the Bloom to fill in low spots and areas where the grass had died.

The filled in areas and patches were completely covered and the grass came in thick and very green. Both our front and back yards look the best they have in years. Our neighbors shared the Bloom and they have similar results and are very pleased with the results. Even after our recent hot dry spell, the grass looks great," says Tim.
