Ngā Karere o Te Mātāwai
Mahuru 2017

Ā kō tonu ake nei tukuna ai e Te Mātāwai te Rautaki Maihi Māori. Kia Ūkaipō anō te Reo; Koia nei te wawata o te Rautaki Maihi Māori. Te Mātāwai will shortly be releasing the Maihi Māori Strategy. The vision of the Maihi Māori Strategy is Kia Ūkaipō Anō Te Reo: Te reo Māori is restored as a nurturing first language.

E rua ngā whāinga rongomaioro o te Rautaki Maihi Māori:
  • Hei te 2040, ka kotahi miriona (neke atu rānei) te hunga whakamahi i te reo Māori i ngā takiwā rumaki o te hapori.
  • Hei te 2040, ka ūkaipō anō te reo o tētahi 25% o ngā tamariki Māori (0-7 tau te pakeke).
The Maihi Māori Strategy has two audacious goals:
  • By 2040, one million people (or more) will be using Māori language in community immersion domains.
  • By 2040, the Māori language will be the first language of 25% of all Māori children (aged 0-7).
Kei Te Mātāwai te kawenga mō te $10.8 miriona mā Te Mātāuru (te tahua reo Māori mō te kāinga me te hapori) i tēnei tau (Hōngongoi 2017 – Pipiri 2018). Te Mātāwai is responsible for $10.8 million for Te Mātāuru (home and community based Māori language funding) this year (July 2017 – June 2018).

Ko ngā haumitanga reo Māori mō te kāinga me te hapori ka āia ake e ngā kāhui e whitu o ngā iwi me te kāhui reo tukutuku a Te Mātāwai. Investments for the home and community based Māori language will be driven by each of the seven iwi and the reo tukutuku clusters of Te Mātāwai.
E whā ngā tūāoma hei whakatinana i ngā haumitanga: Tūāoma 1: Te whakarite i ngā pae motuhake, Tūāoma 2: Te whakatakoto mahere haumi, Tūāoma 3: Te whakarite i ngā mahi me ngā kaupapa hou, Tūāoma 4: Kua noho mai ngā mahi me ngā kaupapa hou. Implementation of the investment will occur in four stages: Tūāoma 1: Setting up cluster panels, Tūāoma 2: Developing investment plans, Tūāoma 3: Procuring activities and initiatives and Tūāoma 4: Initiatives and activities are in place.

Some iwi clusters have already established selection panels for investment. Your Te Mātāwai Board representative will be in touch to advise when your cluster panel process will occur.

E hangaia ana anō e Te Mātāwai he tūāpapa whai taunakitanga i tana whakapau pūtea ki tētahi mahi rangahau hei whakaatu me pēhea tā tātou whakakaha ake i tō tātou reo. I angitū tētahi tukanga whakapuaki hiahia whai wāhi mai i tautuhia ai ētahi whakahaere matua ki te whakatinana i te wāhanga tuatahi o te rangahautanga. Te Mātāwai is also building an evidence base by investing in research that will guide how we strengthen our language. A recent expression of interest process was successful in identifying some key organisations to deliver the first phase of research.
