Writing from our small, mostly white, northeastern mountain valley, our volunteer board is not diverse. Additionally, the climbing and outdoor industries have historically been outstandingly white. We acknowledge what we cannot fully understand: the bigotry and systemic prejudice against people of color in this country. However, as we continue to craft our vision for opening a community hub prime for building relationships, health, and fitness, we want to play our part in this national movement for change. We pledge to support the work of organizations who promote and facilitate diversity, access, and social justice for black and brown people in the outdoor world. All fundraising events we hold this summer will benefit organizations that represent marginalized communities. Additionally, the Board will develop operational procedures for the co-op gym that seek to be inclusive to all regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual identity, disability, religion, and socio-economic status.
Sending together. See you around soon,
The Board.
