Dear Friends of EKSS,

It has been a beautiful summer so far, and while you might expect things to have quietened down during the holidays, in reality there has been plenty going on.

From social gatherings at the beach to staff attending conferences to all of the behind the scenes work that goes into making EKSS the wonderful place it is, it has been a busy month.

This week some of our staff were honoured to be able to attend the Summerhil Experience and in August various members of our community are excited to be heading out the Freedom to Learn Forum.

It has been a wonderful privilege to be able to learn from and network with other democratic schools from all around the world and we will be coming back to EKSS with renewed enthusiasm for the new year. We hope you are all as excited about the new term as we are!

Freedom to Learn Forum

Last year several of us attended the Freedom to Learn Forum at Summerhill School in Suffolk. It was a wonderful experience that gave us a wealth of new information and experiences that helped in the successful setup of EKSS.

This year it takes place at Braziers Park in Oxfordshire from the 23rd to the 26th of August. Tickets are still being sold on eventbrite so if you are interested in taking part in this great event we will look forward to seeing you there!
Last year's Freedom to Learn Forum was a great experience for those involved. We are excited about attending the next one.
Sudbury Around The World

Recent insights from the global family of Sudbury Schools.
  • Aaron Browder discusses how the concepts of freedom and democracy underpin the culture at the Open School, and contrasts this with the chaos depicted in William Golding's Lord of the Flies.
  • Hudson Valley Sudbury School has published several of their graduates' theses on their blog. Graduates describe their journey at HVSS and their outlook for the future.
  • At Alpine Valley School, Marc Gallivan discusses the natural fire of creativity that drives children's enthusiasm for learning, and how this is nurtured in a democratic school.
