Living to Work or Working to Live?

On this Valentine's Day, some may reflect on the question: do we live to work or work to live? Fairtrade International Senior Advisor of Cocoa Jon Walker shares his thoughts in his new blog post.

Fairtrade’s strategy is to work towards a living income for cocoa farmers. After an 18-month consultation, with participation from WCF members, the organization has taken a critical first step: a mandatory new Fairtrade Minimum Price for cocoa.

Early Detection Can Eradicate Cocoa Disease in West Africa


With over two million smallholder farmers in West and Central Africa relying on cocoa as part of their livelihoods, a healthy and sustainable cocoa sector means opportunity for poverty alleviation. A major threat to this vision is the devastating Cocoa Swollen Shoot Virus, spreading rapidly in the region.
