Membership (MBR)
Hi, I'm Lex and I chair the Membership Committee! I'm currently working towards my PharmD at the University of Pittsburgh in PA and I expect to graduate in April 2022. I'm excited to bring my passion for health equity to this organization, representing the diverse needs of our members base. This committee works to empower our members in their exploration of cannabinoid medicine. To better support our members, we plan to:
- Map membership needs through collection of demographic data around race, gender, income and ability.
- Ensure adequate representation of Black and Brown providers among board and society members by introducing unique membership incentives.
- Expand our audience by enabling accessibility features on new media platforms like Mailchimp, LinkedIn, and Zoom.
- Facilitate member engagement with society resources by hosting events in buildings that are easily accessible in terms of location and design.
Do you have ideas for enhancing member recruitment and retention? What could we do to create a culture of inclusivity where every member feels valued?
MBR will be meeting on the second Monday of every month beginning with Monday, April 11th at 8 pm EST
Finance (FIN)
My name is Brian Essenter and I am the chair of the Finance Committee. I have been a Cannabis Pharmacist in Connecticut for 7 years and am currently getting my MS in Integrative and Functional Medicine with a concentration in Medical Cannabis. ISCPh is a great organization that I am proud to support. If you have any interest in how the money is handled or have ideas of how to help improve our financial standing and want to be part of our Finance Committee please join us at our next meeting on April 27th, 2022 at 8 pm EST. This committee meets on an as needed basis.
Education and Professional Development (EPD)
My name is Simi Burn and I am a pharmacist in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After I earned my PharmD in 2010 from the University of Houston, I practiced pharmacy primarily in long-term care pharmacy management, with additional experience in home infusion and community pharmacy. I transitioned to holistic medical cannabis specialization in 2020 and now work as a cannabis pharmacist consultant and educator, freelance medical writer, and yoga teacher. I am a staff writer for NisonCo, a leading cannabis PR and SEO firm. My blog Exhale Vision explores the scientific and spiritual intersections of cannabis and yoga.
EPD oversees many of the educational series including Journal Clubs, Patient Case Reports, Inside the Industry and ACPE accredited continuing education courses. The EPD committee is also developing a pilot program for pharmacist-led consultations bridging medication therapy management and medical Cannabis. EPD committee meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 8 pm EST on beginning April 5th.
Quality Assurance and Patient Safety (QAPS)
My name is Andy Krut and I am Co-Chairing the Quality Assurance and Patient Safety (QAPS) committee. I am excited to move forward with our projects including Labeling Recommendations, Patient Friendly Handouts, and the latest Cannabis Consequences series.
Greeting, I am Leah Johnson PharmD, RPh and I co-chair the QAPS Committee with Andy Krut. I graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Worcester campus in 2012, and currently at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy for their Master's program in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics, graduating in 2023. I am thrilled to be co-chairing the QAPS team as I feel like quality assurance and patient safety is one of the most important things we need to fix in the medical cannabis field. I have heard of too many patients, especially in my state of California, who are confused about what products would be helpful for them and labeling is so important for this! Andy and I look forward to having you attend our first committee meeting on Monday April 18th at 8:15 pm EST.
Clinical Practice and Research (CPR)
My name is Ray and I am the chair of the Clinical Practice and Research committee. I am currently a medical Cannabis dispensary pharmacist in Pittsburgh, PA and also do MTM remotely. I have always been fascinated with the research side of things, being at the forefront of what we know. That said, I am really excited to get to work in shaping the way Cannabis is thought about by healthcare professionals (and ultimately their audience - the patients). Please join me at our first committee meeting Tuesday, April 19th at 8 pm EST. We will be discussing the finishing touches on our Cannabis in the Elderly publication, the next chapters in our Clinical Compendium, and collaborating with EPD on Journal Clubs to present to the organization. CPR will be meeting the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
