Dear Rensselaer Graduate Student:

As we welcome new students to Rensselaer for the first time or welcome back our continuing graduate students for the fall semester, we need to determine who will be physically on campus and who will be joining us remotely.  I ask you to please take a few moments and complete the survey at the following link:  https://rpi.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3Eh4m0pvipvZR53

You are required to fill out the survey as part of the paperwork needed for your appointment for the Fall 2020 semester. If you are a co-terminal student who is still an undergraduate, you do not need to fill out this form.

We know that not all students share the same circumstances and your responses will differ. There are different categories that students will have fall under given their particular circumstances. Example circumstances are below:
  • Some graduate students will be essential if they are conducting research on campus that require laboratory facilities or serving as a teaching assistant for an in-person course;
  • Some graduate students will need to be on campus intermittently for TA duties, RA duties,  library access, and/or attending in-person classes;
  • Some graduate students will be able to be completely remote for their TA or RA duties and/or coursework from a location within the United States; or
  • Some graduate students will be able to be completely remote taking coursework from outside the United States.
Please note that graduate students must be in the United States to receive graduate student support (including co-terminal students in their graduate year).

Our goal is to keep each student as safe as possible and to continue to offer both returning and new students an enriching academic environment.  We also need to know who will be on campus and who will be remote to communicate to the Registrar and to determine COVID19 testing schedules. To help us do that, please complete the survey by August 14, 2020.  As we continue to update plans at the Institute, we ask that you continue to check the Institute’s COVID website (https://covid19.rpi.edu/) and continue to check your Rensselaer email account so that we can stay in regular communication.

I look forward to welcoming new graduate students remotely this semester and am hopeful for when we can attend future gatherings together.  For new students, you have been sent a link to our Orientation website so I encourage you to check this link regularly as well:  https://info.rpi.edu/graduate-education/orientation-and-ta-training-fall-2020

Thank you for your cooperation.  Please stay safe as you travel to campus or as you settle in to your remote location.  We are proud to have you as part of the Rensselaer community.

Sincerely,

Stanley M. Dunn, Ph.D.
