Making magic: our role behind the scenes

by Steve Skonieczny, FORESMA president

Happy holidays and welcome to one of the more exciting moments of the school year for our musicians: when they have an opportunity to showcase the results of their hard work! For FORESMA, this is the time when we look ahead to the second half of the year and ask our music directors if they have any needs for their classrooms. Their needs help determine how to allocate funds we have and how much we need for the rest of the year. With that, I wanted to take some time to let you know what we have been able to do because of our families:

  • Purchase additional music for all groups
  • Fund unique programs like guitar, drumline and marching band
  • Buy new equipment
  • Pay for repairs to school instruments
  • Full and partial scholarships for field trips, competitions and fees
  • Cover fees for chaperones to ensure our students' safety when we're off campus

We are a new school and we're building a music program from scratch, so some of these costs can be large. We thank you for what you have been able to give so far and hope we can expect support in the future. Our students deserve it!

This newsletter has many opportunities to help, both financially and otherwise, so please take a close look and lend a hand where you can. We hope to see you at the December concerts!

Dinner concerts - it's a thing at Robert Eagle Staff

Let's face it: with call-time at 6:00 or 6:30 for your young musician, it's a challenge getting something to eat for the family on concert nights. Thank goodness there are delicious banh mi sandwiches available to purchase, plus lovingly provided baked goods for dessert.

We still have Chinook Books to purchase as well. They make great gifts for in-laws, friends at the office, or even yourself! Look for them at a table near the bake sale before the concert and during intermission.

At the Dec. 5 UW/RESMS concert, we team up with the Japanese Club; bake sale proceeds help pay for their trip to Japan during spring break.

Please bring cash or your checkbook for food and Chinook Book purchases.

Banh mi - $7, baked goods - $1 each
Chinook Books - $25
