Reflections

By Steve Skonieczny, Lead Coordinator
FORESMA Planning Committee

As one of our board members has said about being involved in FORESMA it is exciting because we get to create our community from scratch, at the same time our greatest challenge is that we have to create our community from scratch. Being a new school we don't have the knowledge of previous years to build upon, but we do have a group of creative and dedicated parents willing to share their experiences and use them to build the music experience at Robert Eagle Staff. Challenges were met and excitement rose as the many hands of our community came together to make our first concert week a wonderful success. From organizing the bake sales to the audio and video recording to helping to break down the stage between performances. Thank you to everyone who pitched in to help.

We are now working on plans for the second half of the year and have many good ideas, including a drumline class for parents in January. If you are looking for a unique gift for a special parent, consider signing them up for the drumline class. Our band teacher Mr. Aguilar is offering this two hour class for parents who were inspired by the drumline students performance that began the band concert. If you are interested and have questions about this or want to share thoughts or observations about other music department matters, please contact me at info@foresma.org.

Happy Holidays!

Still looking for a great gift?  Our band director, John Aguilar has an offer for you:

Drumline Class
with REMS Director of Bands
 John Aguilar

Thursday, January 11th, beginning at 7 pm

Do you know someone longing to release their inner percussionist?  Perhaps you know they desire to turn mental chaos into perfect, orderly rhythms?  Maybe you saw our drumline students perform this month and thought, "I want to make those awesomely loud sounds, too!"  Seriously. Call it a date night or Mom's rejuvenating mini-retreat, but you and/or your co-parent want a slice of this!  Mr. Aguilar's drumline class needs no gift-wrapping, is gluten-free and maintains a low carbon footprint. Best of all,  it won't break the bank! Two rocking hours costs $45. Proceeds benefit FORESMA.
Spaces are limited. No experience required. Adults Only.

Contact FORESMA at info@foresma.org to register, get payment instructions and receive a printable gift certificate.

How Does a Swing Dance Sound?
FORESMA is planning to host a swing dance fundraiser at school on the evening of June 2nd.  Three professional groups plus our very own jazz band will play.  We will probably have food trucks for dinner plus a dessert dash.   We are hoping to offer swing dance lessons before the dance.  If this sounds like your kind of event, would you consider organizing it?  Find a friend, and jump in!  John Aguilar has already done quite a bit of the initial organizing.  This is going to be a great event, and you can help shape it.  Please contact Brooke Doyle if you are interested brookedoyle@yahoo.com

Free Money Corner
by Andrea Frank, Newsletter Editor

It's amazing to watch the pieces of our new organization fall into place.  For example, at the December FORESMA meeting, our teachers asked us to fund new sheet music purchases. It was easy to say, "Yes! We can do this," because we had just tallied the proceeds from our concert sandwiches and baked goods sales.  The amounts were nearly the same! Of course, far more thought goes into these decisions, but go on and pat yourself on the back. You are making our music program happen. Two more ways small actions can make a big impact are through Fred Meyer Rewards Card and Box Tops for Education.  If you have other Free Money ideas, we'd love to hear about them. Contact us at ino@foresma.org.
