Something new

See Marie's 'Spirit Tree' mobiles now!

A couple years ago I created a number of mobiles for an art show in Astoria and they received a positive response.

Well, inspiration has struck again, and I now have a NEW selection of my handmade "Spirit Tree" mobiles for sale in the gallery.

I've formed shiny wire spirals at the top symbolizing the rings of trees, long cylinders from original monotypes on rag paper symbolizing tree trunks, and a slice of wood, a polished rock, and bamboo pieces at the bottom.

Sorry, we cannot ship the mobiles.

See them in the gallery Wednesday through Sunday at the Port of Ilwaco!

GALLERY HOURS

Wednesday-Sunday

11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Happy belated birthday, Randy!

Big thanks to everyone who wished Randy a Happy Birthday on Sept. 4, the same day as the year's final Art Walk. Great way to wrap up the event!

Need some cheer and color?

Here I am next to one of my newest works, "Ilwaco Boatyard". The mixed-medium piece on gallery-wrapped canvas includes elements of monoprints, acrylic paint and inks. It's finished with Archival Varnish. It's in the gallery, and it's a must-see!

Gallery glimpse

A timeline in art.

There's something about this photo I really like. Maybe it tells a story or shows different aspects of my work over time, from total abstraction in the three pieces on the left, to semi-realism as shown in "Forest Evening" on the far right.

Below them are Susan Spence's handmade Beach Baskets, which have become a recent fixture in the gallery adding a new, tactile element.

Missing the Kite Festival?

Long Beach's annual Kite Festival is usually a summertime staple. Not this year. But despite being canceled due to the coronavirus a number of kite flyers still took to the beach in late August. This photo is by Robbie Wright. Always a beautiful scene!

Happening around town

Clam digs announced!

"Digging while distancing" clam digs have been approved on the Long Beach Peninsula through the end of December!

Visit the state Fish & Wildlife website to see dates and read regulations.

NEW ART:
NZ Bouquet

New in Marie Powell Gallery! Here's an original oil ink monotype, "NZ Bouquet", I created in New Zealand utilizing native NZ foliage including Kauri Tree branches and Kawa Kawa leaves, amongst others. Layers of design create depth and vibrant saturated color contrasts. I haven't shown this type of work for several years, but enjoy the energy of the piece. 19" x 30". Available. Soon to be framed.
