Arctic Missions Helping Alaskans
Until recently, there was no mention of coronavirus in Selawik. AMA volunteer and nurse, Edna Estrella, and her husband José, were worried to see the lack of knowledge and leadership in setting up safety protocols. The Lord kept impressing Edna to call a meeting with the tribal administration, the city administrator and the clinic supervisor, but she resisted.  But the story of Esther kept playing in her mind and the words, “for such a time like this," repeating day and night. So she gave in and shared her concerns with the city administrator who immediately called a meeting of the Selawik city, tribal and clinic personnel. The next morning, the group all came to the table (6’ apart!!) to discuss what steps to take to protect the community.  It was then Edna realized how much help the village needed and how eager they were for guidance. She was able to share lessons learned from her work as a specialist during the HIV epidemic emphasizing the devastation Covid-19 could cause in Selawik with its lack of medical infrastructure. By the end of the meeting, the group had a solid plan in place to protect the community and mitigate potential infections!  Please continue to lift up our AMA workers, villages in Bush Alaska and the state during this time of fear and uncertainty that we, like Christ, can be a calm in the storm.

Calling All Sewing Heroes!
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, AMA launched Project Compassion Alaska COVID-19, an initiative to support Bush Alaska which includes making masks for village residents.  AMA needs anyone who can sew to join in providing protective masks to our villagers.  If you and your circle would like to be part of this ministry, email sadgeee@aol.com.  Mask making guidelines can be viewed here.

Alaskan Featured in Adventist Journey
A profile on Nome Church member, Shoni Evans, is featured in the April edition of Adventist Journey (click here). Shoni and her husband Michael have fostered over 300 Alaska Native children in the past 20 years. Part of the process was an interview with Shoni which you can view here.

Arctic Mission Interview
Mark your calendars to watch Spotlight On Missions with our own Tandi Perkins, Director of Development.  During a visit to Maryland in February, Tandi Perkins, was invited to share the Arctic Mission Adventure ministry with General Conference president, Ted N.C. Wilson and Derek Morris, president of Hope Channel.  What a wonderful opportunity God has allowed to profile our efforts in Arctic Alaska to an international audience!  The interview will be broadcast on the Hope Channel on April 17 at 4:30 pm Alaska time, rebroadcast on Sabbath through Tuesday and available on demand at www.hopetv.org/revivalformission/.  Watch here!

Kevin Miller Returns
Conference President Kevin Miller is back in Alaska after a nine month deployment overseas. We are praising God for his safe return. Thank you to all the prayer warriors lifting Kevin and Paula up in prayer during this time.  Although eager to get back to work, the pandemic and mandatory quarantines are delaying his physical return to the office.  In the interim, Kevin is available by email at kevin.miller@ac.npuc.org.

Treasury Update
God is good!  First quarter tithe for 2020 shows a 0.8% increase from 2019.  During Jan 1-Mar 31, 2020, tithe received was $807,551. For the same period in 2019, it was $800,783.  Thank you to those who have been faithful in returning tithes and offerings.  It is understandable that the pandemic is having an affect on giving with the closure of churches across the state.  For the month of March 2020, tithe received was $252,686 as compared to March 2019 of $330,590. Remember, AdventistGiving is a great resource to facilitate the giving process while churches are closed or go "snail mail" and send your offering direct to your local church.

Alaska Conference Day of Prayer
Next month the Alaska Conference will be hosting a Day of Prayer (specific date and time to be announced). Prayer Warriors, join us as we petition for those affected by the coronovirus pandemic which has touched all aspects of our lives--how we socialize, worship, educate, work, and more.

Pioneer Peak Fundraising Suspended
Thank you to all who have financially supported the renovation of the Pioneer Peak auditorium. Because of you, we have raised $20,000 towards our $60,000 goal. Regrettably, we must postpone this effort due to State mandates resulting from COVID-19.  We pray that we can resume this project in the fall.

We Want To Hear From You!
As part of the desire to improve the effectiveness of conference communication, we are asking for your feedback. Currently, the conference uses four methods of communicating: print, email, Facebook and our website. Let us know how we are doing and, better yet, how we can improve! During the month of April, we invite you to participate in a short six-question survey to provide feedback. Click here to participate. Hurry, survey closes April 30th!
