Calling all painters, musicians, dancers, potters, performers, designers, curators, poets, artisans, photographers, writers, printmakers, storytellers, actors, quilters, singers and other creative folks!

You are invited to participate in Prince Edward Island's Culture Days this fall. Whatever your passion or mission, Culture Days is a wonderful chance to cast a spotlight on your creative projects.

This year, Culture Days will once again be celebrated across our country. Over 7500 free activities happening in over 900 communities, towns, and cities from coast to coast. Let's join in the magic!

Why get involved with Culture Days in PEI? 
Culture Days is a grassroots movement designed to help you: 
  • Create meaningful connections in your community, while growing your existing network and collaborating with new creative folk
  • Ignite your local community with your passion, while being part of a nation-wide movement 
  • Promote the importance of arts and culture and enrich your local community

How can you play your part?

Any arts or cultural activity - professional, community, amateur or educational - can be a part of Culture Days as long as meets the following criteria: 
  • Free to the public 
  • Happens Sept. 29, 30 and/or Oct. 1, 2017 
  • Involves audience participation or reveals a behind-the-scene aspect to give the public a better understanding of the inner workings of arts and culture 
  • Registered for free on

Culture Days aims to:

  • FOSTER appreciation and support of the artistic and cultural life that is lived, created and expressed across the country in urban, suburban and rural areas alike;
  • PROMOTE direct interaction between creators and citizens, as a key to increasing understanding and appreciation of art and culture; and
  • AFFIRM that every citizen is the guardian of the cultural life of his, her or their community.

Culture Days believes that every individual — regardless of age, location or experience — has the right to access and participate actively in arts and culture. Culture Days also believes that the arts and cultural sector makes a vital contribution to the economic and social development of Canada and contributes to the overall health of the country.

From producers to actors to editors to writers to people in the hospitality industry to accountants to educators, we all could be impacted positively by the growth of a vibrant and thriving film industry. The summit in open to everyone to share thoughts, ideas and information to help us work toward getting the film industry to where it could be. 
There will be a facilitator to add structure and help keep us on track. We hope to come out of this day with some ideas and action steps to get us moving toward our goal of a functioning sector.

Deadline for Proposals – August 30th 2017

this town is small is seeking proposals for the 2017-2018 exhibition season in our gallery space, the wall: portrait gallery which is located in Dawson Lounge at UPEI, Main building, room 520. the wall is a new gallery space coordinated by this town is small and the UPEI Anthropology and Sociology Department.

The gallery will focus on portraiture in it various forms. “We are excited to be working with Dawson Lounge. As an academic space primarily serving students who are studying people and culture, a portrait gallery will be a great fit.” says this town is small program director, Becka Viau. “We hope to bring a little bit of Island perspective to the global department.” All artists on PEI are encouraged to submit projects to this gallery space.

Market Gallery   –  2017/2018 Call For Proposals

this town is small is seeking proposals for the 2017-2018 exhibition season in our gallery space at the Charlottetown Farmers’ Market, 100 Belvedere Avenue – Charlottetown PEI. 

We are interested in progressive forward-looking practices; the fruition of innovative ideas; inventive approaches to artistic production; and work based on an articulate theoretical and/or critical and/or poetic thesis. We encourage and facilitate the presentation of curatorial and artistic works that have and have not been exhibited in this locale. We are enthusiastic about artists’ most recent endeavors and art forms that propel contemporary production and incite conversation.
