I'm pleased to bring you a snapshot of some of the work I have been doing here in Sydney...

Community Morning Tea

I was honoured to host a Christmas thank you morning tea to celebrate some incredible individuals, groups and organisations that make an outstanding contribution to our community.

A lot of these groups are made up of dedicated volunteers who devote their time, experience and energy into making a difference in the lives of others. I felt it was worth recognising some of these volunteers at this morning tea to acknowledge the work that they do.

I have had the pleasure of engaging with these groups over the last few years and the work that they all do is unique and special and it does not go unnoticed.

Burton Street Cutler Footway

For 5 years the Burton Street Cutler Footway in Darlinghurst has been closed due to disrepair. Well, good news. The significant repair work is almost completed! I was able to to inspect the improvements bring made to the viaduct with Assistant Minister Andrew Gee MP and Dave Sharma MP and can report the works are on track to be finished in December 2019.

The footway viaduct is an overhead route connecting Macdonald Street, Paddington and West Street / Burton Street, Darlinghurst. It passes over Boundary Street and Barcom Avenue.

New works include a wider footway, safety barriers, lighting and signs
of the viaduct arches, a new road deck and drainage.

The work is a great collaboration between the Federal Government and the City of Sydney

Darling Square Library

Darling Square Library is now open located at 1 Little Pier Street, Haymarket.

This Library is four times the size of the old Haymarket Library. This extra room has more than 30,000 books and millions more digital items, including ebooks, movies, magazines, a large Asian literature collection, retro gaming consoles, and robotic and electronic kits.

It's free to signup and borrow if you're a NSW resident, otherwise you are free to enjoy the space even if you're not a member. I'm glad I got the chance to check it out at the recent opening and I recommend you do the same.

Bridge Housing AGM

I recently attended Bridge Housing's Annual General Meeting for 2019.

2019 was shown to be another successful year for the organisation. Some of the key achievements include the successful expansion of Bridge Housing's portfolio to the Northern Beaches to deliver services for 1,200 social housing residents in the area and providing housing for 52 long term rough sleepers through the first year of the STEP to Home (a rapid rehousing response) program.

Bridge Housing prove to be one of the leaders in providing long-term social and affordable housing, I look forward to see what 2020 brings for the organisation.

StreetLevel Mission Walk

Thank you to Mitch and the Sydney Streetlevel Mission walking group for inviting me on your weekly walk around Sydney. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other better, enjoy the beautiful weather and get a bit of exercise!

Odyssey House Breakfast

Thank you Odyssey House for sharing your end of year wrap with us and the unveiling of The Dreaming painting. The work to end addiction and substance abuse is confronting. The complexity of issues - drug addiction, mental illness, violence, homelessness, is never ending. Supporting organisations like yours is so important to our community and I thank you for the incredible work you do. Special shout out to Jodie and Daniel for sharing your stories. They will stay with me forever.

Great Christmas Party with the PUG Mens Shed at Tramsheds. It was fun to catch up with the blokes as well as their other halves. Well done on another successful year.
