I'm pleased to bring you a snapshot of some of the work I have been doing here in Sydney...

I was pleased to host SchoolAID's quarterly meeting in the City of Sydney Council Chambers and to give the students a quick tour around Town Hall.

SchoolAID is Australia’s first crowdfunding platform for kids. It is a not-for-profit organisation that provides an opportunity for young people to be philanthropists and to be active with community fundraising. It is a fantastic organisation and it was a pleasure to have them here at Town Hall. If you would like to know more about SchoolAID, you can check out their website here

Pyrmont Ultimo Glebe Men's Shed

It was great to catch up with the guys over lunch at the Pyrmont Ultimo Glebe Mens Shed. As always, the food was fabulous, the conversation lively and the after lunch music sensational.

Located at Jubilee Park, the PUG Men's Shed is a bunch of diverse blokes getting together, supporting, mentoring and looking out for each other as well as doing some great work in the community. This Shed is so successful it is now mentoring new Men's Sheds which are proposing to get established in other areas.

Kings Cross Community Garden

I was happy to support the City of Sydney grant for the Kings Cross Community Garden. Previously a neglected pocket of land located in Kings Cross, Lawrence Hargrave Reserve will soon be a place local residents will come to enjoy gardening and growing edible herbs and vegetables.

I enjoyed visiting Terry and Edwina to see and envisage the plans for Stage One of this project. It is a great initiative that encourages the community to come together and share their interest in gardening and sustainability. I look forward to seeing the progress when I visit again later in the year.

Centenary of Anzac Soil Collection

It was an honour to join Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott, Councillor Christine Forster, Lieutenant-Governor Tom Bathurst, Rear-Admiral Jonathon Mead and students from Plunkett street Primary School at Garden Island, New South Wales in one of the final soil collection ceremonies to commemorate the Centenary of ANZAC.

Soil samples are being collected from 1,701 towns around NSW where First World War enlistees enlisted as well as from fields of battle from around the world.

The soil samples will be displayed at the Hyde Park memorial reopening in October 2018.

Farewell, Commander Luke Freudenstein

The 8th of June was the last day of service for Commander Luke Freudenstein at NSW Police Force and at Redfern Police Area Command. I know he will be missed by his team and the whole community. Thank you Commander for your service to NSW and particularly to the community of Redfern. You are admired and respected at all levels and you have big shoes to fill.
