We want to hear from you if your residential accommodation is untenanted or under-utilised to understand more about the reasons why properties are not being fully used. We are inviting you to a discussion, with us, City of Adelaide Councillors and staff, to hear from ratepayers about empty homes in the CBD. Attendance is free but numbers are limited so you must RSVP by email to email@example.com by Monday 14 September. The discussions will be held in the City of Adelaide Town Hall and details will be emailed to you upon your reply. If you cannot attend a group discussion, but would like to speak with us we can set up a separate time.
Residential Property Owners and Property Managers
Session 1: Wednesday 16 September, 5.30pm to 7.00pm
Session 2: Tuesday 22 September, 2.00pm to 3.30pm
Session 3: Thursday 24 September, 5.30pm to 7.00pm
According to 2016 Census data, there are enough vacant residential properties across Australia to end homelessness! The same data showed there were 1,076 unoccupied private residential dwellings in the Adelaide CBD which is 15.2% of all dwellings - much higher than 11.2%, the Australian average. As we focus on the housing needs of people living on low incomes we want to find out if there are empty homes that could help to address housing affordability in the City.
We look forward to having conversations with you to raise community awareness about housing affordability in Adelaide and to explore the reasons why homes remain empty or are not frequently used. We will also introduce our Homes4Good platform to you and AirBNB's Open Homes program.
Shelter SA will publish the results of our research and recommendations about measures to increase the number of properties tenanted to address housing affordability and housing need in the City. We are currently seeking a sponsor for the publication and you can email us to find out more about this opportunity at firstname.lastname@example.org.
