Dear St. Mary School Parents,
Salvete in Christo!
We are so very excited to be starting school in just a few weeks. I pray that all of you have had a restful, peaceful and safe summer break blessed with faith, family, and fun. We are happy to share with you some exciting news for Ms. Jessica Pung. She has been presented with a special opportunity to work more closely with family at her alma mater, Michigan State University. We are excited for Ms. Pung, celebrating with her, but will also miss her hard work and positive presence at St. Mary. She has been a blessing to our community. Please see the letter she asked me to forward to you, below. We look forward to everything that God has for her and hope she will visit us with updates!
I am very pleased to announce Ms. Pung’s replacement, our new second grade teacher, Mrs. Joan Cook
. Mrs. Cook comes to St. Mary as a highly qualified teacher with a significant amount of classroom teaching experience in both Catholic (13 yrs.) and classical (3 yrs.) elementary education. While at Livingston Classical she taught successfully at the second grade level. In addition, Mrs. Cook brings a multitude of other experiences including ten years as a tutor, evaluator, and founding member of summer enrichment programs for the Dyslexia Resource Center as well as training in the Orton-Gillingham approach for teaching literacy. She is also trained in leveled literacy intervention and was part of starting and growing an Accelerated Reader program at a previous school. We are very blessed to have Mrs. Cook joining our classical education team. She is a positive and enthusiastic Catholic with an Advance Catechesis certificate in addition to her Professional K-8 certification with CX(Social Studies) and DX(Science)endorsements. Welcome to St. Mary Mrs. Cook!
LETTER FROM MS. PUNG
Dear St. Mary Families,
I was provided with an opportunity to work at my alma mater, Michigan State University, in the Mechanical Engineering Department. I previously worked for the Mechanical Engineering Department as an undergraduate student. I will be assisting faculty, staff, and undergraduate students within the department. I will be scheduling advising appointments, helping to prepare travel vouchers, and providing general office assistance. This is an exciting new challenge and opportunity that will also enable me to spend some more family time with my sister and niece who have recently moved back to the area.
Please know that I will miss all of the wonderful staff, students, and families at St. Mary. This was not an easy decision, but I am excited for this new opportunity. I am so blessed to have had the privilege to work with the amazing community at St. Mary for the past two years. I am so thankful for all of the support from Father Mark, Deacon Hilker, Mr. Lomas, the St. Mary's staff, parish and school families, and my students. St. Mary's is a family-centered community deeply rooted in faith and I am so honored to have been a part of this wonderful school.
I will forever be a huge supporter of St. Mary's and keep this amazing community in prayer. I know that this school and community has a very bright future and I cannot wait to hear more about it! St. Mary's will always hold a special place in my heart. I am eternally grateful for all of the memories, friendships, and support that I have received as being a part of this extraordinary school.
Sincerely, Ms. Pung
