Dear GLC members and friends,
This season, we're thinking about the ways we're connected as a global church and world. We're praying for different countries each week, along with Christians around the world. This Sunday, as we're starting for worship at GLC, across the globe the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan and the Holy Land will be in worship to ordain the first Palestinian woman pastor. Check out this article and consider all of the global connections there, and how God is moving!
Think about where your family is from, pray for places you hear about on the news, and consider the incredible good news that God is with you - and them - wherever you are, however your day has been, and no matter what.

Ukraine Benefit Organ & Piano Concert, this Sunday, 4:00
Concerts in observance of the 300th anniversary of the publication of Bach’s Well-tempered Clavier continue at Georgetown Lutheran Church on Sunday, January 22, at 4:00 pm. Organist Stephen Ackert will join forces with internationally acclaimed Ukrainian pianist Mykola Suk to present several of the preludes that are especially effective on the piano, with the corresponding fugues performed on the church’s tracker organ, built by Richard Howell and tuned to a historic temperament such as Bach would have identified as “well-tempered.” Suk will also perform works by Sigismond Thalberg and Franz Liszt.
Admission to the concert is free. A free-will offering for the Ukrainian aid program of Lutheran World Relief will be collected.

Team Meetings next Sunday
Next Sunday, 1/29, after worship about 11:00, join us as we gather for team meetings: service, worship, and property! This is a great opportunity to jump into a conversation about an area of ministry together, share your ideas, learn more, and get involved. We especially encourage folks new to our community, or curious about learning more, to stay and take part. Property team, facilitated by John H. and Charles B., will discuss current repair and restoration projects. Service team, facilitated by Sophie G., will discuss upcoming service projects and new opportunities. Worship, facilitated by Pastor Brett, will discuss planning for Lent and a regular check-in on worship feedback and ideas. All are welcome!

Global Prayer with Our Cross Collection
During the season after Epiphany, global worship elements reflect God's good news to the whole world. We invite you to notice and pray along with us for different countries each week, following the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Prayer Cycle (click to see this week's prayer places, resources, and learn about those places) - as we do so, we'll highlight crosses from those places in our collection. Also notice and pray for the places and people from which new crosses in our collection have been recently added. Look for the dots and legend on the sign in the entryway. This week we're praying for Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey - a selection of crosses from there are pictured below - find them in the church next time you're there, and pray for the people there!

Bible Study - Thursday nights - try it and join us for the new year!
Each Thursday, 7:30-8:30pm on Zoom here, Pastor Brett and GLC friends gather for Bible study. We pick up where we are in reading a book of the Bible together, and simply read and discuss - no experience necessary, and join in whenever you can! It's a good place to learn, explore your own faith, and get to know other church members. We chat together, and then close each week sharing our joys/concerns. There's room for you - join us next Thursday or anytime in the future!
