Dear GLC members and friends,

Tomorrow/Saturday, 1/14, join GLC friends and our wider Georgetown community participating in a day of service, right in our neighborhood! Meet up Pastor Brett and others at 9:30 at historic Mt. Zion Cemetery, (2501 Mill Rd NW, just north of 27th & Q Sts). Come dressed ready for yardwork outside as we join neighbors help clean/maintain this historic African American cemetery. Then we'll walk over to Grace Episcopal Church (1041 Wisconsin Ave) for Grace's Table, a community meal, and help serve as well as join in for lunch. Check out all the Georgetown events and sign up and see details/times here (especially if you'd like to donate food or volunteer to help with lunch details) - or just plan to join us!

Take a listen - King's Letter from a  Birmingham Jail, read by Lutheran Clergy
Rev. Dr. King’s prophetic call to action to the Church and fellow clergy is grievously and regrettably relevant over 50 years later. As we honor Rev. Dr. King’s dedication to reforming the Church and American culture, listen to the African-American voices of 20 ELCA (Lutheran) clergy, once again asserting a call for action to the Church by reading the very words written by Rev. King. Click the video at right or here to listen.
Last call - take poinsettias home!
Thank you to all who donated poinsettias in honor/memory of others, which were so beautiful in our sanctuary this Christmas. Now, take them home! If you donated, please feel free to take poinsettias from the bell tower room (door next to pulpit) this Sunday, or email Pastor Brett if you want one. Next week we'll find new homes for all that are left.
Kids' (& Parents') Learning in January - Little Lutherans this Sunday!

Little Lutherans and Sunday School! We're getting back on schedule after the holidays to resume kids' activities, which happen Sundays from 9:00-9:45 in the fellowship hall. This Sunday, 1/15, is Little Lutherans, with babies through pre-K and parents, and next Sunday is Sunday school for grade school kids. In February, we'll resume our schedule: Sunday School on the 1st & 3rd Sundays, Little Lutherans on the 2nd Sunday of each month. Hope to see you then!
Ukraine Benefit Organ & Piano Concert - 1/22

Concerts in observance of the 300th anniversary of the publication of Bach’s Well-tempered Clavier continue at Georgetown Lutheran Church on Sunday, January 22, at 4:00 pm. Organist Stephen Ackert will join forces with internationally acclaimed Ukrainian pianist Mykola Suk to present several of the preludes that are especially effective on the piano, with the corresponding fugues performed on the church’s tracker organ, built by Richard Howell and  tuned to a historic temperament such as Bach would have identified as “well-tempered.” Suk will also perform works by Sigismond Thalberg and Franz Liszt.

Admission to the concert is free. A free-will offering for the Ukrainian aid program of Lutheran World Relief will be collected.
Global Prayer with Our Cross Collection

During the season after Epiphany, global worship elements reflect God's good news to the whole world. We invite you to notice and pray along with us for different countries each week, following the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Prayer Cycle (click to see this week's prayer places, resources, and learn about those places) - as we do so, we'll highlight crosses from those places in our collection. Also notice and pray for the places and people from which new crosses in our collection have been recently added. Look for the dots and legend on the sign in the entryway. This week’s crosses from Iran and Syria are pictured here - find them in the church next time you're there, and pray for the people there!
Bible Study - Thursday nights - try it and join us for the new year!
Each Thursday, 7:30-8:30pm on Zoom here, Pastor Brett and GLC friends gather for Bible study. We pick up where we are in reading a book of the Bible together, and simply read and discuss - no experience necessary, and join in whenever you can! It's a good place to learn, explore your own faith, and get to know other church members. We chat together, and then close each week sharing our joys/concerns. There's room for you - join us next Thursday or anytime in the future!
