WUSD Staff Transitions to 100% Distance Learning
Ths Fall, Washington Unified staff made the transition to Distance Learning along with WUSD students and families.  Staff members have worked hard to be able to offer traditional programs and services in this non-traditional school setting.  Sites have also expanded their educational support programs in order to support families while school campuses are closed.  For more information about WUSD's plan to serve families during distance learning and beyond, click the link below.

WUHS Graduate Lilliana Ruiz Honored as 2020 Dellavalle Soil Science Scholarship Recipient
Washington Union High School graduate, Lilliana Ruiz, was recently honored as the 2020 Dellavalle Soil Science Scholarship Recipient. Ruiz was chosen because of her leadership skills, academic achievement, and plans to study soil science in the future. Ruiz has plans to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, studying Hydrology and Soil Science. She was interviewed on local News/Talk radio station KMJ 580 and 105.9. To listen to the interview, click on the link below.

Fresno Area Virtual College Night Planned for This Week!
The Fresno County Superintendent of Schools will host a virtual Fresno Area College Night on September 9, 2020. The event will take place from 5 PM to 8 PM and will feature college presentations and opportunities to chat with college representatives.

WUSD Meal Service Adds Location and Shifts Pick-up Time to Accommodate Families
On August 18, WUSD added another pick-up site for meals to better meet the needs of American Union families.   Also, pick-up times were adjusted so that families could grab meals before instruction begins each day. Meals are now available in 3 locations from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM on weekdays.

Washington Unified is committed to keeping you informed during Distance Learning. We have staff members available at each site to answer your questions or assist you while you work to facilitate learning from home. Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health Hosts Drive-Thru Mental Health Event
The Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health and the Central Valley Suicide Prevention Hotline will be hosting a second drive-thru resource event on Saturday, September 19, 2020, from 9 AM to 11 AM at the Clovis High School parking lot. Mental Health resource kits will be distributed and will include local resources, mental health guides, fun self-care activities, Each Mind Matters promotional items, and more.

High School Athletic Season Tentatively Scheduled to Begin This Winter
The Washington Union High School Athletic Department is gearing up for the 2020-21 athletic season.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sports activities and events have been given a Winter start date to be able to comply with state and local health guidelines.  WUHS has released a tentative schedule and will keep our community informed via auto-dialer and informational posts on the WUHS website at http://www.wuhs.washingtonunified.org/
WUSD Alternative Education Data Offers Interesting Look at When Students are Engaged in Asynchronous Learning
A recent look at WUSD's Alt. Ed student engagement data shows that many students are choosing to complete their schoolwork during non-traditional school hours.  While one of the highest points of engagement comes during the school day, around noon, another popular time to complete coursework is around 9:00 PM.  Data also showed that 64% of Alt. Ed students chose to complete work on the weekends in addition to working during the week.
