Link Crew and WEB Leaders Welcome Students to the 2019-20 School Year
August 13th marked the first day of school for over 2600 students in the Washington Unified School District.  Student leaders at each school site played an important role in welcoming students.  The WUHS Link Crew hosted an orientation for over 300 incoming Freshman to ensure that each new student had the knowledge they needed to successfully begin high school.  WFMS's "Where Everyone Belongs" (WEB) student leaders made sure incoming 6th graders felt a sense of belonging at their new school through games and activities designed to promote a sense of community. If your child or someone you know is struggling this week, be sure to reach out to your school's counselor.  WUSD staff want to ensure all students feel safe and welcomed at school.

Superintendent Challenges 19-20 Staff to Share Hope

Over 250 staff members from throughout Washington Unified Schools participated in WUSD's "Welcome Back Kick-off" on August 7th, hearing this important reminder from Superintendent Randy R. Morris: Share Hope.  "We want our students to know that there is hope, that they can achieve the life they want if they put in the work to get it and we will be there to help support them every step of the way."  As we begin serving our 2,600+ students, WUSD staff are excited to provide the support they need to achieve their goals!

American Union Elementary School Welcomes New Principal
American Union Elementary School is proud to welcome Timothy Butts, Jr. as Principal for the 2019-20 school year.  Mr. Butts many years of experience in education to American Union, having served as both a teacher and administrator in the public school system.  Click below to read more.

WUSD Launches CLEVER Portal for Students and Teachers
The WUSD Technology Department is excited to announce that the district’s CLEVER Portal is now fully synced and ready for use! Clever is an online portal for both students and teachers. Students can now log onto District supported educational apps in a single step!  For teachers, CLEVER automatically syncs login information from Aeries and Google on a daily basis, making manually adding and deleting student log-in information a thing of the past. 

WUSD Education Foundation Partners with Eco World

The District is excited to announce that the WUSD Education Foundation is now partnering with Eco World to collect gently used clothing and shoes that can be reused or recycled. Through this partnership, the Foundation will receive funding for scholarships and other student needs. If you have any gently used clothing or shoes for donation, look for the big green box at your school site today! The WUSD Education Foundation is thankful for the support of its community partners. 

Board Passes Resolution Encouraging Community to Participate in 2020 Census

The Washington Unified Board of Education recently passed Resolution No. 19-1, a resolution proclaiming the District’s commitment to ensuring a complete count of students and families during the 2020 Census.

College and Career Pathways Draw Record Number of Students to WUHS
Washington Union High School welcomed a record number of students this year, starting the first week with 1,212 students enrolled.  One of the reasons students are enrolling is the schools' commitment to preparing graduates for college and career through 10 Pathway options and over 20 Dual Enrollment opportunities.  Click below to read more.

Heat it up Kreations Partners with West Fresno Educational Center to Support Students

Community supporting community.  Heat it up Kreations is proud to be a part of the backpack drive created by Michael and Stacy Esparza to help support students at the West Fresno Educational Center.  To help kick off the new school year Heat it Up Kreations donated school supplies to fill backpacks for students in need. "There is nothing more important to us here at Heat it up Kreations than education! We know the future of tomorrow relies on the little minds of today," stated founder Michael Esparza.  WUSD is grateful to community partners like Heat it up Kreations!

Parents Encouraged to Use Free Tool to Track Valley Air Quality
Washington Unified is excited to continue its participation in the Healthy Air Living Program, a program of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District. As part of the program, school staff can receive regular email and text message alerts about local air quality from the Real Time Air Advisory Network (RAAN) tool.  While the RAAN tool was originally created for schools, it is now free for everyone to use.
