Fall 2021 Newsletter

This pandemic has had significant impact on our dance industry.  For the first time in a long time, there was Canadian dancesport competition - being held this weekend in Gatineau, Quebec (National Dance Council of Canada's National Championship).   You can check out some of the action on their Facebook page.   On a more somber note, more locally, the pandemic has lead to the closing of one of Winnipeg's largest ballroom dance studios.

I will continue to do what I can to help keep our ballroom dance scene alive and hopefully growing.  So if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear from you.

After starting up private lessons a month ago I'm pleased to announce that I will be starting up group classes in about a month.  The U of M Recreation Services will only be offering a couple of recreation classes this fall.  Two of which are my beginner tai chi class and a solo Latin ballroom class.  Please check out the information below.

With optimism, hopefully the next time I reach out (December) the pandemic will be behind us.

Keep well and I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy!

Solo Latin Ballroom @ U of M

I decided to be a little creative and offer a solo Latin dance class this fall.  As the course title suggests, students will be dancing solo and they will be learning the basic techniques of the four latin styles of cha cha, rumba, jive and samba.  With about three weeks devoted to each dance, we can likely get into more intricate footwork as well.  The objective of the class is to give students the foundational footwork to help them transition into partner dancing when it's safe to do so!
