Winter 2020 Newsletter

This newsletter comes a bit earlier than usual because the next few weeks will be rather busy at work so best to make hay while it's sunny.  2019 has been an interesting year with all the various competitions I attended and participated in (Floorplay in Palm Springs, April Follies in Oakland and Embassy Ball in Los Angeles).  I expect that 2020 will be just a bit quieter on the dance side of things since I have to focus my time on organizing a national chemistry conference in Winnipeg in late spring.

Wishing you and your loved ones an early happy holidays!  May 2020 bring you and your family love, laughter and hopefully opportunities on the dance floor!

All the best,
Horace
New Developments - Inclusion in Ballroom!
Earlier this fall, two of America's largest ballroom dance organizations, USA Dance and National Dance Council of America have changed their definition of a couple.  In the past, it was male lead and female follow.  Today's definition is any two people dancing regardless of their sex or gender identity.  So already, same-sex couples and reverse-role couples have jumped on this opportunity to participate in the main stream events.  Currently these couples are integrated into the mainstream couples' events and not in separate divisions.  Great news overall!
The annual Ted Motyka Studio Christmas Party will be held December 7.  As usual, members from my classes will be going so if you'd like to join our tables, please let me know by Friday November 29.

Tickets are $20 each, doors open at 7:30 pm, dance begins at 8 pm and go until late into the evening.

These awards are usually given out on a first come, first served basis - so apply early! The money must be used to help travel to compete in one of our sanctioned competitions (Floor Play LA in Los Angeles in January 2020, April Follies in Oakland in April or New England Open in Boston in September).
