As Trump attempts to pick off moderate Democrats, they stand strong in their refusal to give in to Border Wall demands - via The Hill.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9
The Best We Can Do Is Stand Strong In What We Believe to Be Right
The tricky thing in writing about faith and politics is that almost any verse can be used for proof-texting - proving either a point from one perspective or the complete opposite. This verse in Joshua, for example, comes from a story about attempting to conquer a city. Not exactly what I would consider something to hang our hat on concerning peace and justice.

And that’s why going beyond proof-texting is important. What is this verse telling us about the overarching nature of God? About how God interacts with humanity? The story of Joshua is one about stepping strongly into the direction he is called. God promises to be there.

So as we consider what I believe is a biblical calling to stand strong in the face of tyranny, oppression, bullying, and the like, we know that God surrounds us.
How often have you called your representatives to ask them to do something? Why not take this opportunity to thank them - if they are doing so - for standing strong and refusing to give in to Trump’s ridiculous demands?
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through the mighty strength
Of the Lord of creation.

-the prayer of St. Patrick
