Joe Biden is not necessarily who everyone wanted for President but given what we have been through in the last four years, I think most people can agree that he is the President that we need. After his speech on Thursday evening, Twitter was awash with people praising him for being a breath of fresh air and providing the hope so desperately needed for those in our country suffering from the aftermath of the poorly managed COVID outbreak in the form of a relief bill. Instead of dreading whatever manic things might have come out of Trump’s mouth, Biden has brought us a much-needed dose of reality and hope.
It might feel easy to find hope in a new administration in the White House, or through the vaccines. But it’s just as important to remember that we don’t stop working towards hope just because we’ve found it in some places. There are plenty of individuals and families for whom hope is still not that strong. Texas Governor Greg Abbot lifted the mask mandate giving hope to those that don’t take COVID seriously but failed to provide hope to those already sick and at high risk of becoming infected. There are hundreds of children sitting at our borders waiting for hope to happen to them in the form of care and stable homes. Where are the pro-lifers at to provide them with some hope?
Hope is never a one-dimensional thing. We can hope in the Lord, and we should, but given that God works through each of us, it’s our job to make sure others know and feel hope. As each of us finds our hope in the future of this global health pandemic, may we be able to provide hope for others in big and small ways.
