A bipartisan Senate majority passed a resolution today limiting the President from ordering future strikes against Iran without first seeking Congress’ explicit permission.
The House has yet to take a vote on the bill, which the President is expected to veto. At this point in time, it does not look like there are enough votes to override this veto.
War and violence are anathema to Christianity - although we have seen both used to promote religious superiority throughout the ages. Even the first principle of just war theory calls for all diplomatic avenues to be addressed before the use of force is applied.
As we begin the process of selecting our next president, we must ask ourselves – as Americans and as people of faith – do we trust our leadership to lead us in diplomacy and away from war and militarism?
