Today's Top Story

From the NY TimesRod Rosenstein Suggested Secretly Recording Trump and Discussed 25th Amendment

"Mr. Rosenstein mentioned the possibility of wearing a wire on at least one other occasion, the people said, though they did not provide details.

The suggestion itself was remarkable. While informants or undercover agents regularly use concealed listening devices to surreptitiously gather evidence for federal investigators, they are typically targeting drug kingpins and Mafia bosses in criminal investigations, not a president viewed as ineffectively conducting his duties."
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

-- Psalm 1:1-6
What the Friday Night
  • Though none of us should treat federal law enforcement as worthy of unfettered moral acclaim (see the assassination of Fred Hampton, etc), President Trump's ongoing battles with the intelligence community may well be his undoing.
  • An imbecile in matters of government, it all began for Trump (in terms of his Presidential encounters with the FBI), when he failed to understand how he FBI works: demanding loyalty from lifelong Republican James Comey, before firing him from his former position as FBI director.
  • We are citizens in the hand of an angry President. Who can know what turmoil is ahead? But there may be hope yet for those who want justice.
Subscribe to real life newspapers, national or local, whose reporting, when used for good, can help keep this President on guard.
God, give Republicans the moral fortitude to pursue what is right even if it means putting country over party. Give Democrats the moral fortitude not to acquiesce to the immorality of those in power (and the dignity to separate themselves from corporate interests, while we're at it). May the President fail in all his attempts to perpetuate inequality and may justice not tarry. Comfort those who suffer in our country while the wicked run amok with wanton disregard for those they govern. Amen.
