White supremacist propaganda looks innocent alongside a menu on a college campus.
From NPR: White Supremacist Propaganda At 'Record-Setting' Levels, ADL Report Finds

According to a new report by the Anti-Defamation League, white supremacy propaganda increased by 182% in 2018 compared to the year before. Fearful of real-world repercussions for being publicly identified with far-right racist ideologies, neo-Nazis and their allies have focused their efforts on propaganda campaigns that target college students and mainstream conservatives. Flyer campaigns allow them to spread their hateful message without risking the unwanted exposure that public events like the infamous “Unite the Right” rally brought to individuals involved in fascist activity.
For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
    evil will not sojourn with you.
The boastful will not stand before your eyes;
    you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak lies;
    the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.
But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
    will enter your house,
I will bow down toward your holy temple
    in awe of you.
Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
    because of my enemies;
    make your way straight before me.
For there is no truth in their mouths;
    their hearts are destruction;
their throats are open graves;
    they flatter with their tongues.
Make them bear their guilt, O God;
    let them fall by their own counsels;
because of their many transgressions cast them out,
    for they have rebelled against you. - Psalm 5:4-10, NRSV

Emboldened by the success that dog-whistle (and sometimes overt) racism has brought Trump, a new generation of white supremacists is trying to repackage the same racist, anti-Semitic ideology for more mainstream audiences. While the internal discourse of the far right remains littered with slurs, Nazi symbolism, and violent fantasies, their propaganda efforts often aim to obscure their overt racism and anti-Semitism with appeals to ostensibly acceptable themes like European heritage and patriotism.

Far-right thought leaders are obsessed with a concept in political theory called the “Overton window,” a way of talking about which political propositions are seen as unthinkably radical - and which are viable as potential public policy. The so-called “alt right” hopes that it can disguise itself under a respectable facade. Their leaders hope that good grooming and modern graphic design can obscure the fact that they are peddling the same hateful, violent ideology as ever - and help move their evil ideas into mainstream politics. But we are not deceived.

Many Christians struggle with the Imprecatory Psalms like Psalm 5, texts invoking judgment on evildoers. But as modern-day fascism creeps ever more steadily into common political discourse, it’s more vital than ever that we speak boldly and truthfully about what this way of thinking really is: evil and sinful. Only when the truth is openly acknowledged can we do the essential work of countering white supremacy and reconciling the world in God’s transforming love.

Have you seen racist propaganda in your community? Take a picture and report it to the ADL. If you feel safe doing so, consider tearing it down so that it can’t be part of the spread of hateful ideology.
God of righteousness,
You lead us on the paths of justice and peace.
Give us the wisdom to discern truth from lies, honesty from deception, and love from hate,
So that we might boldly proclaim your steadfast love to all the world.
In your many holy names we pray,
Amen.
