Today's Top Story
"Rosenstein to meet Trump Thursday as job hangs in balance" via AP News. "Rosenstein expected to be fired Monday as he headed to the White House... [b]ut he left with no action taken... The reports about Rosenstein add to the turmoil roiling the administration.... In addition to dealing with the Mueller investigation, the White House is also struggling to win confirmation of its Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations."
"Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." - Philippians 4:8
Think About These Things
  • Last Friday, it was reported that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had considered recording conversations with the president last year in order to prove him unfit for office. We hear today that Rosenstein may resign or be fired from his position. It's the latest tick along the timeline of the investigation into the relationship between the Trump campaign and Russian interference with the 2016 election, and one whose impact on the Mueller investigation is still unfolding.
  • Meanwhile, Deborah Ramirez has come forward to join Christine Blasey Ford in accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, leading to protests at the Capitol
  • Today's news shows us again that there is nothing true, honorable, just, pure, pleasing, commendable, excellent, or worthy of praise in this administration, except for the women and men resisting it. This administration would have been decried by biblical prophets across the centuries for its negative actions, but we don't have to look back that far for condemnation. We can hold it up to the light of the gospel and to the qualities that Paul exhorts the Philippians to think of and see again that there is no good in it.
  • I know that we will have many poignant and powerful reflections as Thursday approaches and brings with it both Dr. Ford's testimony and the fallout from the Trump-Rosenstein meeting. The future of our country will be shaped by how this Supreme Court nominee's case is handled and by the results of the Mueller investigation, and we cannot help but be drawn into the importance of these times. But I would encourage you to take today's news as more fuel on the fire of our resistance, pushing us to focus on the honorable, commendable, and excellent actions taken by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez and the just investigation undertaken by Special Counsel Mueller.
If you haven't already, sign this petition as a Christian in support of Dr. Ford
Eternal God, we thank you for those that you have raised up in this time and place to steer us away from the darkness that surrounds us and toward what is true and praiseworthy. We thank you in particular this day for Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez and ask for you to strengthen them, protect them, and give them courage. We ask the same for all who are resisting this administration no matter the cost to themselves. Guide us and carry us close to your heart. Amen.
