The Border Wall Isn't The Only Reason Democrats Oppose Plan To End The Shutdown - via NPR.

"The proposed bill includes some big changes to U.S. immigration policy that were not included in the president's public announcement — including a provision that would sharply limit asylum applications for children from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. 'It's a Trojan horse filled with many extreme immigration proposals,' said Kerri Talbot of the Immigration Hub, an immigrants' rights organization."
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15
Do Your Homework and Dig for the Truth
I know, I know, we’re ready to move on and stop reading about the wall and the shutdown. Time to find another story, another person to shame, or another hero to lift up on our tired but sturdy shoulders. True, we must continue look beyond the loudest headlines - but this story is still worth our investigation and time.

“Do your best”: that’s all the letter to Timothy asks of us. To do our best to not let the truth be forgotten or looked over, to present ourselves to the world having done our homework.

Not that I have to remind you, but Trump hasn’t told the truth and has presented the worst of himself and our country. If you didn’t read the full article, do it now. It’s nuts what else is involved.

But it’s easy to start wondering if we should cave. It got real for me when the elementary school next to my church called needing emergency food for a family whose only paycheck came from a furloughed place of employment. This family lives paycheck-to-paycheck, but the school was shocked to find them in need of emergency food.

Nonetheless, to cave would be to cave on “tens of thousands of children...applying for asylum” - and so much more.

It’s hard to know how not to be ashamed as we stand before those struggling Americans and look south to our siblings in despair. This is not an easy or uncomplicated situation.

So we look for the truth, continually, never ceasing to do our best as we present ourselves to God and to one another. Don’t cave, y’all.
Look deeper in to everything you post and react to. Too often we get worked up and then forget to follow through. Simple as this: look further, dig deep, stay true, and present yourself the best you can.
Welcome us, O God, into a time when we can continue to place you above all else, to a time when we first invite you into a conversation, presenting ourselves to you and to one another with our most thoughtful work. Grant us grace when we falter and hope when our shoulders sag. Most importantly, let us be the Beloved Community for all the people, creatures, and land of this world. Amen.
