Taking advantage of that, there are countless unauthorized suppliers online promising Schaller Automation Oil Mist Detectors at a cheaper price than available from the authorized dealer.
They all tell you the OMD units have been tested, calibrated and are in impeccable working condition. They even give warranties.
What they DON’T say is that the units they offer may come from scrap yards and pose a danger to your vessels and crews and can cost you in an emergency.

A factory authorized refurbishment goes through a rigorous process of testing, cleaning, repair, parts replacement, calibration and further testing through climate chambers to comply with SOLAS regulations, before the unit can be certified for sale.
Only 2 locations in the world allow for proper testing and refurbishment of Schaller Oil Mist Detectors, the head office in Germany and the regional headquarters in Singapore.
“Refurbishment” and "repairs" by unauthorized dealers are not sanctioned by Schaller Automation and are usually done with pre-used and inferior parts. The work is also done by untrained and non-authorized workers.
Always request an official Testing Certificate which can only be provided by Schaller Automation. A grey market oil mist detector will not come with it as it does not go through the SOLAS required calibration and testing to ensure the units function properly.
