Here are a few things since last time:
1
INTRO
We have launched the Essential Life Skills Fund to invest £820k in regular extra-curricular activities for children and young people, particularly those facing the greatest barriers to participation. We would like to hear from organisations that will provide new, or significantly extended access to, provision across Scarborough, Whitby and Filey.
Applications are open until 5th March 2018. You can apply here. Guidance for the application process is here.
2
COEXIST
Fund II: We have launched our Opportunity Area Awards. This will fund schools and colleges to deliver projects that support, and promote, greater social mobility for children and young people. Projects should be linked to our programme delivery plan. Additional funding is available for collaborative projects. Apply here.
Fund III: Funding is also available for youth-led groups to deliver their own social mobility project. Again, this should be linked to our delivery plan. Apply here.

STARS
All schools, schools leaders and teachers aspiring to leadership in the area are eligible for fully funded places on the newly reformed National Professional Qualifications. These are available at middle (NPHML), senior (NPQSL), head (NPQH) and executive head (NPQEL) levels. The approved providers for these reformed qualifications are here and include a range of local and national providers. You can contact these providers directly to book a place. Otherwise, please get in touch with us, or the NPQ mailbox, with any questions.

BASIC SPACE
The North Yorkshire Coast Research School held a successful launch conference in January, joined by over 50 professionals in the area. The conference had a maths focus, but also featured a key note from Alex Quigley (the Huntington Research School In York) sharing his enthusiasm for vocabulary. The Conference was the start of things to come, work is underway with associate research schools and future events are being planned. Find out more on their website.

PERFORMANCE
The Programme's Partnership Board allocated funding to a new project at the February meeting:
- Over £200,000 has been approved to support all settings, schools and colleges in the introduction of whole-school approaches to improving the emotional health, wellbeing and resilience of children and young people. This builds on a pilot project in Whitby run by the Esk Valley Teaching School Alliance and North Yorkshire County Council.

SHELTER
The government's recent Careers Strategy said: "Employers, including those who are self-employed, have an important part to play if we are to succeed in our ambition to support individuals to grow and develop."
In the last month, the Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) brought together their cornerstone employers across all Opportunity Areas at the House of Lords. Hannah Magowan, an award-winning apprentice at Dale Power Solutions, stole the show.
This was followed by the Big Meet, run jointly by NYBEP, the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership and the CEC. Employers came together to discuss how to work effectively with schools. There is a lot more to do, but their commitment is clear.
Coming up in March, over 1,800 students in the area will benefit from NYBEP's Successful Futures programme, which will include a menu of activities during National Careers & National Apprenticeships Week (05/03 - 10/03). 30 employers are already signed up to help out with enterprise challenges, mock interviews and much more.
Save the date - Scarborough Science and Engineering Week 2018 will take place at Scarborough Spa on 9, 10 and 11 October. Over 3,500 students are expected to visit and be inspired.
Anyone who would like to get involved should contact Andrew Davies or events@nybep.org.uk.

I DARE YOU
Applications are open for strong maths teachers in both primary and secondary schools to train as mastery specialists through the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM). This fully-funded opportunity is at the centre of how we will help raise the attainment of our children in maths. If you want to be at the front of this work, find out more here.
9
DO YOU MIND?
The first North Yorkshire Leadership Conference is taking place on 28th March to support school leaders in achieving excellence. It will include keynote speakers Sir John Jones and Josh Smith, as well as workshops from the likes of us. Book here.
10
REUNION
IVE is seeking one or two schools to engage in their Cultural Leaders in Education (CLE) programme. CLE is a leadership development programme for experienced middle or senior leaders who have a passion for arts and cultural education. This is a match-funded scheme where schools work with an arts/cultural organisation on a whole-school based enquiry programme that addresses attainment or engagement needs. This will include a NPQSL qualification to run alongside this work. The NPQSL will be fully funded given we are an Opportunity Area. Applications open until Wednesday 15th February. Apply here.
