Dear Shroomheads, hello Martians,

Finally some news from mars mushrooms. We make it short... we proudly present...

...from now on "MILK" is available as download and as limited vinyl edition in presale

Immeldorf: With "MILK" we are releasing the ninth album of mars mushrooms in March 2021. "MILK" is our first vinyl release and is also available now as a digital download via Bandcamp - where the pre-sale for the LP is also running at the same time.

More information regarding "MILK"

"MILK" brings some special features with it. It was recorded live at the Weisses Roß (White Horse) in Immeldorf - only without an audience. The songs were refined in the SkySoundStudios in Nuremberg. In addition, the album contains the 18-minute track "Science", the longest title ever released by the band. "MILK" consists of only three songs and yet contains more than 36 minutes of self-composed jam music. In addition, the track "Science" features a complete horn section for the first time with the four-star horn players Ilya & Schalli (also known from the band Kellerkommando).

Live-Recording: Benno Baum and Johannes Seeger at the Weißes Roß (White Horse), Immeldorf, GER
Fine-tuning of the recording: Johannes Seeger at the SkySoundStudios, Nuremberg, GER

Why "MILK"?

The mars mushrooms have a kind of secret code. No, we have many secret codes. Sentences or phrases that only we understand and only we laugh about. One of them is "We just look at each other". Behind these words is basically the complete philosophy of mars mushrooms, who have become so much more than just a band to all of us. "We just look at each other" ... this phrase comes up every time it comes to planning a show, writing a setlist, giving a jam a predefined direction. Or to generate some kind of binding structure. So over time, a certain lack of perfectionism became a strong agreement regarding a freedom and serenity that has sustained us for years. The theory behind it is relatively simple, the practice is not: we discard all plans, start playing and "just look at each other". And this only works in very specific, often long-term relationships. There are married couples who only need to look at each other to clearly understand each other. It's similar with us. Most of the time it works. And when it goes wrong, it's also good. Or sometimes better.

What does that have to do with this album? Everything. One song (Science) was written virtually one day before the recording, the rehearsals took place with four of us (one couldn't join them). Not to mention the location of the recordings: The Weißes Ross (White Horse) in Immeldorf. A place that in itself embodies complete unpredictability. Pure chaos and infinite beauty. And yet, as always, there was a deep sense of primal trust that everything will be fine. Just looking at us.

Before the recordings, when it came to whether and when we should venture on a new album, the word "MILK" appeared to Michi in a dream. The title of the new album was clearly and unmistakably "MILK". The quotation marks included. The next day, the following concept was in place: record in pyjama pants (also applies to the sound engineers), we record in Immeldorf, there's a glass of Coke in the middle of the room (because of MILK...) and we achieve maximum relaxation.
Today, months later, it's certain: the glass of Coke worked its magic, the pyjama pants were perfect (even if not everyone adhered to the dress code) and maximum relaxation was definitely achieved. We hope these three songs speak for themselves.

By the way, another secret code in the band is "canned liver sausage". More about that on the next album...

Upcoming shows 2021

Yes, of course there should be a lot of live dates here now, but since there's nothing going on at the moment we'll make up for it... as soon as possible.
We hope that our are enjoying our new album (here again the Link to the Shop) as much as we do.

See you out there!

Yours, mars mushrooms
