With the help of 32 generous donors, Soil Cycle raised just over $1700 this Missoula Gives! We cannot thank our community and members enough for their ongoing support. We are excited for future opportunities to continue providing composting education and services to more Missoulians.
Our sites have been incredibly busy lately! We were lucky to receive donations from Heritage Timber (repurposed barn wood for new drop-off sites and garden beds), Able Tree Services (bountiful wood chips for BOTH of our locations), Caras Nursery (all of the seedlings and starts needed for our 1st street demonstration garden), and Little Dumps (loan of equipment for our on-going Trail Street clean-up)!
We love our community, and wouldn't be the organization we are today without the ongoing support from organizations like these.
Soil Education in Action!
Soil Cycle had a chance to visit Garden City Montessori last month and teach about soil health! Students discussed soil components, and even tested soil from our new Trail Street location, in addition to soil from their own garden! We love visiting classrooms, just as much as we love hosting students on-site. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about education rates and programs.
Produce Sticker Reward Program
Keep Those Stickers Comin'!
We launched our member-wide Produce Sticker Reward Program just over a month ago, and have already received over 5 postcards back. We encourage you all taking advantage of this #ZeroWaste opportunity- and thanks for the new wall art!
Compost Tea Subscriptions are
Compost tea is a unique way to naturally fertilize your plants, by directly feeding the soil. Unlike synthetic fertilizers that only provide the plant with nutrients, compost tea provides nutrients to both the soil and the plant by unlocking nutrients that already present (just dormant) in your garden beds or houeplants! By making these nutrients more available, compost tea can increase drought tolerance, water retention, and healthy root formation.
At Soil Cycle, our special compost tea blend is aerated for 24 hours, and must be used within 5 hours of purchase, or the microbes will go back to "sleep"! We brew and sell on the first Friday of each month, April- September, from 10AM to 4PM. Stop by this Friday, June 3rd, to see the process in action! Purchases can be made in advance on or in-person. Please bring a reusable gallon container for purchase if interested.
And the Poppy Hat is Back! (thanks to our friends at Zoo City Apparel)
MUD's Earth Day
We had a blast participating in MUD's Earth Day event. Thomas and Hannah had the opportunity to present about vermicomposting...and even brought some of Soil Cycle's resident Red Wigglers to meet the community!
Garden City Harvest recently brought you all the Great Day of Planting. Soil Cycle partnered to bring you all things worms and compost! Thanks to everyone who stopped by for some garden fun.
Join us again this Saturday, June 4th at 10 AM! GCH's Community Gardens Coordinator and vermicompost virtuoso DeHanza Kwongis leading a hands-on experience about the benefits of composting and how to do it at home, followed by a tour of our local composting operation.
Linseed oil has been our friend this spring! The team has been hard at work protecting all the new and well-loved wood structures on site, including Hera's favorite cloudy day bench.
Thank You For Your Support!
With Love, from our Board and Crew!
