Soil Cycle won a Montana EcoStar award! Not to boast too much, but we were the only organization from Missoula to win this prestigious award and we're feeling pretty great about it!
"The EcoStar awards program, now in its 20th year, recognizes Montana businesses that support environmentally and economically sustainable communities by preventing pollution, or “P2,” through efforts such as conserving water, energy and clean air." Compost Give Back!
On Friday, September 17th Soil Cycle successfully delivered (by bike) about 70 bags of compost to 32 homes with the help of about 8-9 volunteers!! Many of which were new people that had never seen Soil Cycle helped deliver bags. Thanks volunteers and members for a great fall compost give back event!
Soil Cycle Crushed it at SponCon!
Soil Cycle's "Team Worm" was new to Home ReSource's SponCon event this year, but that didn't stop the newcomers from taking on an ambitious building project! Bradley, Tauner, Caitlyn, Mari, Mike, and honorary member Thomas put together an impressive submission for Home ReSources's Benefit Auction!
Behold the “composting table of death and destruction” made out of 100% reclaimed materials found at Home ReSource and built in one day. This outdoor kitchen is made out of a door with a welded frame, recycled sink, and complete with a worm mosaic that used 3 semi-empty grout containers! Below the table is 2 different gray water catchments -one for a utility bucket and one for a planter that doubles as an actual worm bin!! Scrape your scraps right into the chute and let the compost happen. Imagine prepping apples on this beauty.
Do you want to take this beauty home? You can bid on it at Home ReSource's Virtual Annual Benefit Auction, happening right now through October 15th.
Not only is this table sturdy and sound, it's also pretty!
A Farewell to Alison
Soil Cycle's fabulous Compost Expert and Board Member Alison Coluccio accepted a job out of state and has stepped down from the board.
While we're so excited for her, we're also going to miss her something fierce! Thanks for all of your hard work Alison, we appreciate it and wish you the best of luck on your next chapter.
Missoula International School Educational Field Trip
On September 10th, Soil Cycle hosted a super successful service learning day with the 6th graders at the Missoula International School. Employees Caitlyn, Thomas, Nick, and Volunteer Graduate Student Robbie worked with a seriously fun group of 11 year olds. They built a compost pile, filled compost bags for the fall give-back, worked on a worm bin, and picked tomatoes for the produce stand. Thomas even taught the students to use power tools! We love you, Missoula International School!
Let's Commute!
All Soil Cycle employees logged sustainable trips to work (biking, bussing, and walking) during Missoula in Motion's Sustainable Commuter Challenge earning an honorable mention as a micro-sized workplace! Way to go team!
