Year of Zayed Honours the Legacy of Philanthropy
The Year of Giving catapulted philanthropy in the UAE to another level and yielded valuable partnerships united in the goal to transform lives. As we welcome the Year of Zayed we are excited to see this continue to grow as we honour the legacy of the UAE’s Founding Father and the values that continue to guide us: wisdom, respect, sustainability and human development.
Through our commitment to local medical research, we aim to continue the work of Sheikh Zayed who made incredible investments in healthcare in the UAE that transformed the quality of life enjoyed by all people today. As a global humanitarian, Sheikh Zayed extended his generosity and support to people and countries in need around the world.

Transforming Lives
Baby Salman has new lease of life.

Approximately 500 children are born annually with a congenital heart defect in the UAE, the most common birth defect affecting millions of children world-wide. When 7-month old Salman showed signs of rapid breathing and difficulty feeding it was discovered he had congenital heart disease and in need of critical care.

The expert medical team at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital performed the lifesaving open heart surgery successfully and
with a dramatic improvement in his symptoms baby Salman was discharged after one week.

Father, Mohad, has expressed great joy on the health of his baby boy. “We do not have enough words to say how wonderful it is to have our baby at home. We
see the incredible difference every day as he is breathing well for the first time in his life. My family and I are so grateful to Al Jalila Foundation and Al Jalila Children’s for providing Salman with the best medical care and support.”

Al Jalila Foundation,
through it’s Farah program, has provided quality treatment to more than 92 children suffering from heart disease, cancer and other chronic illnesses.

Shaping the Future
Greenwood leads inclusion in classrooms.
Ta'alouf, 'harmony' in Arabic, was born from the principle that every child, no matter their abilities, has enormous potential and that potential should be harnessed to empower the child to live a happy and productive life.

Greenwood International School has embraced the Ta’alouf Teachers Training program which equips educators with skills to bring inclusiveness into classrooms to support children of determination. With 25 teachers
having already completed the program Greenwood sets an example and leads best practice in their school and beyond.

Kefah Samara, Head of Special Educational Needs, said: “Ta’alouf Teachers Training is a truly pioneering concept and the results show as overall the school has become far more inclusive and we are all more qualified. I refer continuously to the course information and use the knowledge and skills to engage the children in the classroom. The real goal is complete inclusiveness in all areas of life, not just the classroom.”
Since 2014, Ta’alouf has invested in more than 206 teachers in the UAE enabling best practice and inclusion in classrooms.
Ambassadors of Hope
Swim around 'The World' helps children.

One of the most rewarding benefits of any sports activity is that it can improve people’s lives, energise their minds and bodies, and spread the power of good health where it’s needed the most.
Sam Barnett, MBC Group CEO, recently completed a 23km swim around the World Islands in Dubai in 9 hours and 54 minutes, smashing the previous record and raising an incredible AED 410,000 for children’s treatment in the UAE.
For Sam, swimming took the place of marathon running, which had been his passion for 15 years, after a back injury meant he could never run again. Sam wants to give hope to others to break barriers and live their dreams despite challenges. He also hopes to inspire more people to support local causes.
“Initially, I started swimming to defy chronic back pain as the result of an injury. For this challenge, it has taken two years of intense training. I dedicate this achievement to anyone who overcomes adversity despite injury or disability, and to Al Jalila Foundation whose charitable and humanitarian work changes the lives of many around us”.
