Sussex Project Recap

We thank God for the success of our second annual Sussex Project. The Sussex Project is a week-long service project in our community where we help families with yard work/ small home repair projects and point them to Jesus. This year, from June 20-25th, approximately 40 volunteers served at the homes of about 12 local families.

We love because he first loved us. – 1 John 4:19
"I think as humans we tend to look for God in the big things. We want to witness His miraculous healing of the sick or turning a jug of water into the best-tasting wine; however, when we focus on this, we tend to miss the little places where God shows up.
This was Baleville’s second year with the Sussex Project and it was not short on God being active in what we were doing.  This year, the work was not overwhelming; however, the needs from the families seemed greater.  We were able to come alongside a family who had a fear of a large tree falling on their newly purchased home.  God placed the right people on that job who had the skill set to strategically remove the lower branches and make the tree lighter until a tree service could come and take it down.  God also showed his hand by providing individuals who were not able to physically help but gave generously so the family would not have to worry about the cost of having the tree removed.  We now can walk side by side with them on Sunday mornings as they build a relationship with God.  This is God working through the small things leading towards something greater.
We met a new mom whose husband is suffering greatly from PTSD.  We didn’t witness God healing him; however, we did see someone who understood what PTSD looks and feels like come along side this young mom and provide comfort and hope by using his experience and God’s words.  This is God at work in the small things bringing healing.
Not all of God’s work that week involved interaction with whom we were serving.  On a small job, God placed two couples together, who may not normally interact due to their ages and life experiences, to complete a half-day task.  They were able to find common ground through music, their heritage, and humor to make a connection, which led to discussions about Baleville Church and a time to encourage each other in their walk with Christ.  This is God showing up in the small things teaching the importance of fellowship.
The one job that makes me stop and think, even to this day, was a big job for a family facing the loss of income as the single mom’s job was coming to an end.  We had many volunteers that day who worked tirelessly to clear weeds and brush from the front and back yard of this family’s home.  Her children came out to help and her young daughter and one of our young volunteers worked side by side and became friends.  To hear them laugh and find joy in something like pulling weeds and gathering worms was a good reminder of the simple love God has for us.  In the end, I don’t know if they stayed in touch but for those few hours, a young child was able to befriend another who knows what God’s love looks like and could share it with her.  What an impact for a young person who may never have heard God’s word or felt his love.  This is God working in the small things, teaching this adult how to love God like a child, and for that I am truly blessed."  - By Debbie Cooper

If you choose to pursue membership, we offer two classes on Sundays after the worship service.  If you are interested in either Discover Baleville or membership, please click the box below or contact the church office and let us know so we can coordinate dates.

Children's Ministry

We need your help!

The program will likely be on Friday evenings, and will need many different types of volunteers. We need those with high energy, those who simply want to help children learn their memory verses, and even those who want to help with an occasional special event.  If you have an interest in learning more about this program, click the link below or contact Bonnie Ingraham at bonnieingraham@gmail.com

Sunday Morning Children's Programs

Our 2nd-5th grade kid's Sunday Morning program will be starting up again on September 11th!  The first Sunday of each month, kids will stay in the service where they can fill out a Sermon Notes sheet for a prize.  (Sermon Notes sheets can be found in the back of the sanctuary).  The remaining weeks, kids are dismissed part way through the service to learn a Bible lesson geared right to them!
Our younger class for kids ages 3yrs-1st grade will continue each week as usual.
